Harborview Department of Psychiatry has an outstanding opportunity for a full Time (100% FTE), day shift for a Program Operations Specialist, ITA Court Evaluator. The HMC ITA Court Evaluator position fulfills the requirements set forth in RCW 71.05 related to the Mental Health Professional (MHP) components of the examination and court processes associated with 14/90/180 day more restrictive orders and revocation hearings of less restrictive orders. Patients admitted on a civil commitment anywhere in the hospital require a Mental Health Professional (MHP) evaluation. A licensed clinical independent social worker, psychiatric advanced registered nurse practitioner, and psychologist are statutorily defined as a MHP in RCW 71.05.020. For persons admitted to Harborview Medical Center on an initial detention order per RCW 71.05 and for whom the treatment team wants to pursue additional treatment, a petition must be filed with King County Superior Court within 120 hours. The petition must be signed by two physicians or by one physician and one MHP, both of whom have examined the patient. The role of the ITA Court Evaluator is to interpret the merits of each 120 hour and revocation case and subsequent 90- and 180-day hearings in terms of RCW 71.05 The primary function of these evaluations is to establish whether or not two criteria are met:

  • The presence of a mental disorder

  • The presence of one or more of the following

  • Danger to self, others, and property

  • Grave disability (failure to adequately care for needs of health and/or safety)
