HARBORVIEW’S MENTAL HEALTH AND ADDICTION SERVICES (HMHAS) Department has an outstanding opportunity for a MENTAL HEALTH PRACTITIONER, EMPLOYMENT SPECIALIST WORK SCHEDULE

  • 24 hours per week, Part-Time

  • Day Shift DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION HMHAS serves a widely diverse population of clients, all of whom have clear and persistent mental illness. The goals of the program are to promote community stability by securing housing, benefits, and culturally relevant treatment to meet their needs, and to assist clients in developing meaningful and productive life roles. An Employment Specialist/Mental Health Practitioner will be expected to be able to work with a wide variety of clients and be sensitive to the culture, religion, language, age, gender, and sexual orientation of those we serve. The Vocational Specialist will focus on assisting clients choose, get, and keep jobs while working with the rest of the treatment team to minimize the effects of symptoms of mental illness. Their primary focus will be to develop community-based jobs for clients and all the preparation and supportive services associated with this activity.

    PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain a caseload, size to be determined by team

  • Provide employment and advocacy services

  • Assist clients in identifying employment strengths and ways of overcoming barriers

  • Work with potential employers, current employers and co-workers of clients

  • Work with clients’ families and social networks

  • Assess employment challenges and determine interventions

  • Consult with case managers and medical staff regarding effects of vocational activities and treatment REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  • A master’s degree in behavioral sciences, such as psychology, psychiatric nursing, occupational therapy, vocational or educational counseling, or social work

  • OR Bachelor's Degree in nursing or behavioral science AND three years' of experience in the direct delivery of professional mental health care.

  • Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
