The Financial Aid Counselor (Counselor, Senior (E S 7)) for the UW School of Law plays a crucial role in assisting law students with the financial aspects of their education and supporting admission. This position acts as the primary contact in guiding students through the financial aid application process, evaluating eligibility, assigning scholarships, and providing information on available financial aid programs. The counselor collaborates with student fiscal services and other departments to ensure compliance with regulations and policies and works to create a supportive and inclusive environment for students seeking financial assistance. In addition, with be the expert in UW Student Database system for financial aid and admissions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Financial Aid Advising and Outreach: 50%

  • Provide personalized financial aid counseling to law students.

  • Assist students in understanding the financial aid application process, requirements, and deadlines.

  • Evaluate individual financial needs and recommend appropriate financial aid options.

  • Collect and review financial aid applications, including FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and other relevant forms.

  • Determine eligibility for various financial aid programs, scholarships, grants, and loans.

  • Stay updated on changes in financial aid regulations and adjust processes accordingly.

  • Evaluate and enhance financial aid processes for efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Seek feedback from students to identify areas for improvement in financial aid services.Award Management: 20%

  • Communicate financial aid awards to students, detailing amounts, terms, and conditions.

  • Coordinate with the student financial services and registrar's office to ensure accurate disbursement of funds.

  • Monitor and manage scholarship programs specific to the School of Law.Data Support, Compliance and Data Reporting: 10%

  • Stay informed about federal, state, and institutional financial aid regulations.

  • Ensure compliance with all financial aid policies and procedures.

  • Prepare regular reports and assessments on the effectiveness of financial aid outreach initiatives and use data to make data-driven improvements to the outreach strategy.Outreach and Education: 10%

  • Conduct workshops and information sessions on financial aid topics for law students.

  • Collaborate with admissions and marketing teams to develop materials promoting financial aid opportunities.

  • Participate in orientation programs to introduce incoming students to financial aid resources.Customer Service: 5%

  • Respond to inquiries from students, parents, and other stakeholders regarding financial aid matters.

  • Resolve issues related to financial aid in a timely and effective manner.

  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality in handling sensitive financial information.Collaboration: 5%

  • Work closely with other departments such as admissions, academic affairs, and student services to provide comprehensive support to law students.

  • Collaborate with external organizations to identify and secure additional financial aid resources for law students. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field such as education, counseling, business, or public administration is required and 3 years of relevant experience.

  • Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Knowledge of federal and state financial aid regulations.

  • Experience in financial aid administration, preferably in a higher education setting.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Attention to detail and ability to handle confidential information.

  • Proficiency in financial aid management software and Microsoft Office applications.
