Blue Origin LLC Engine Control & System Analysis Engineer III in Seattle, Washington

This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses, our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight. As part of a hardworking team of diverse engineers, you will impact the development and maturation of Liquid Propulsion Rocket Engine (LPRE) control algorithms and simulation models. As a control and system analysis (CSA) engineer, your input and guidance will affect LPRE control system design at all stages of the development lifecycle. Ability to interface and coordinate resources with engine controller hardware, engine controller software, hardware in the loop (HIL), and vehicle control/simulation teams is imperative. An insistence on high standards is required to improve engine control system models based on system performance, mission requirements, program targets and constraints. There will be opportunities for contribution to engine control and system analysis technology roadmap and strategy formulation, as well as technical and professional mentorship for junior team members. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Collaborate with engine and avionics systems engineers to develop and verify engine and control system performance Collaborate with avionics software engineers to develop and verify high level software requirements Develop and mature control, estimation, and system fault detection algorithms Develop and mature verification compliance reports for engine and control system Develop and mature engine and control system transient models and analyses Establish and mature standard work instructions for transient modeling and analysis methods Minimum Qualifications Minimum of a B.S. degree in relevant engineering subject area (aerospace or mechanical desired) 6+ years of experience in transient system modeling and control of complex engineering systems Experience with advanced control strategies (e.g. robust control, model predictive control, optimal control, adaptive control) Experience with hydraulic analysis and control design of hydraulic systems Proficiency in MATLAB and Simulink Interpersonal skills and proven track record to work on a team Ability to learn and work with minimal technical guidance on engine modeling, simulation, and control system analysis, and balance several tasks at one time Ability to clearly communicate technical analysis results to other teams and leadership Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our ethos of inclusion Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
