FirstService Residential Accounting Supervisor in Scottsdale, Arizona

Job Overview:

The Accounting Supervisor is a key member of the Client Accounting Team at FirstService Residential, working closely with the Regional Controller to ensure accurate, timely, and efficient financial information delivery to clients. Each client operates as a distinct business unit with its own budget, vendors, investments, and financial priorities. The supervisor must possess a robust knowledge of General Ledger Accounting (GAAP), accrual basis accounting, and an understanding of AP and AR processes, budgeting, and financial analysis. This role involves collaborating directly with the Controller to support team members with queries related to their financial tasks.

Compensation: $80,000 annually based on experience

FirstService Residential will compensate the successful candidate in accordance with the posted range. The salary or wage paid to the successful candidate will be commensurate with experience, education, and specific job responsibilities. For positions designated at a client's property, the salary or wage will also be premised upon the client's directive. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Assist in training Managers and other staff on accounting processes and procedures
  • Drive onboarding and offboarding accounting activities for transitioning clients
  • May supervise accounting team members
  • Work directly with Controller to develop consistent and accurate standards and processes

  • Coordinates with the Controller to ensure monthly financial statements are prepared in a timely and accurate manner

  • Responsible for production and review of financial statements monthly. Support GL staff accountants on production related questions or issues
  • Troubleshoot accounting or reporting issues in collaboration with operations or leadership as required.
  • Identify and assist in implementing month end financial process improvements
  • Work closely with team to ensure necessary month end duties are performed timely and accurately including bank recs, adjusting journal entries, recodes, cash transfers, reserve funding, bad debt analysis, and other month end duties
  • Work with appropriate cross functional teams to ensure the appropriate creation and uploading of new client budgets and financials
  • Enhance Client/Board relationships through development of regular engagement and addressing action items
  • Support the team with training and metrics development that ensure timely and accurate financial reports are executed with clearly defined processes and service level standards
  • Work closely with other Client Accounting departments (Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Banking) on key deliverables and resolving issues as they arise

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Clear understanding of balance sheets, income statements, general ledger, etc. with the ability to explain these financial reports and procedures to our clients and community management teams
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Proficiency with accounting software
  • Exceptional written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of general ledger non-profit accounting/budgeting procedures
  • Ability to work under pressure, to adjust to constant changes, to handle multiple tasks, and to coordinate the work of others
  • Ability to keep records, to assemble and organize data of complex nature, and to prepare and submit reports in acceptable formats and in a timely manner
  • Able to conceptualize, plan and organize multiple programs and assignments effectively
  • Skilled in developing and maintaining good working relationships.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field preferred
  • Five (5) plus years’ experience in Accounting/Financial roles or equivalent education preferred
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership, supervision and coaching
  • Exceptional process orientation, analytical thinking ability, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Possess a strong work ethic, be detail-oriented, and have excellent organizational and multitasking skills
  • Accounting certification (e.g. CMA or CPA) is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Sit and stand for moderate periods of time

  • Sit at a desk using a computer in an office setting

Work Hours: Monday – Friday, 8a – 5p

Travel Requirements: Some local travel required with the use of a personal vehicle
