Job Description: Controls Engineer Lead

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Controls Engineer Lead to design, develop, implement, and maintain PLC, CNC, and HMI software systems. The ideal candidate will commission, troubleshoot, and debug automation and machine systems, and provide electrical and control system concepts for new equipment and systems. You will create and maintain control drawings and Bills of Materials (BOMs), collaborate with Supply Chain Management, and offer electrical and control engineering expertise to support sales projects. This role requires occasional travel to customer sites for machine commissioning and support, as well as training customer staff and new technicians on machine operation.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, implement, and maintain PLC, CNC, and HMI software systems.

  • Commission, troubleshoot, and debug automation and machine systems.

  • Provide electrical and control system concepts for the design of new equipment and systems.

  • Create and maintain control drawings and Bills of Materials (BOMs).

  • Collaborate with Supply Chain Management to source necessary components.

  • Offer electrical and control engineering expertise to support sales projects and assist the sales team.

  • Develop training materials and documentation for project implementation.

  • Travel occasionally to customer sites for machine commissioning and support.

  • Train customer staff and new technicians on machine operation as needed.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Solid understanding of electrical design principles and machine/motion control systems.

  • Experience in designing electrical cabinets, layouts, and circuit diagrams.

  • Proficient knowledge of electrical safety standards and guidelines.

  • Familiarity with ISO -1 and IEC machinery safety standards.

  • Experience in designing large-scale automated systems from concept to installation and client approval.

  • Knowledgeable in IEC61131 PLC programming languages.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with teams, clients, and vendors.

  • Skilled in troubleshooting and diagnosing issues in automated equipment.

  • Siemens Step 7 / TIA Portal PLC programming experience is a plus.

  • Proficient in EPLAN or AutoCAD Electrical for electrical schematics.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $60.00/hr.
