Guthrie Manager, Nursing-BHS - Psychiatry Service Line - Full Time - $25,000 Sign On Bonus in Sayre, Pennsylvania

Position Summary: The manager is a professional nurse who, as a result of nursing education and clinical practice expertise, possesses knowledge and skill to assume responsibility for clinical practice in defined patient population (a 26 bed Psychiatric unit for adult and adolescent patients). Their clinical expertise enables them to advance care to patients and positively affect the delivery of care in their area. The manager utilizes evidence based standards of care and best practices for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care. The manager utilizes exceptional interpersonal skills and fosters communication while interacting with staff, patients, and other members of the healthcare team. In addition, the manager will assist with administrative responsibilities and the supervision of staff, under the direction of the Director, Behavioral Health Services. He/she also helps to assess the needs and acuity of the patient population ensuring that the appropriate level of care is provided and offering assistance and guidance as needed.

Education, License & Cert: The manager must have current licensure by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a Registered Professional Nurse in addition to a Bachelor’s degree in nursing. Master’s Degree preferred and certification within one year of hiring to role (or when eligible). BLS required.

Experience: Five years experience in the defined clinical area. Demonstrated clinical excellence leadership abilities and teaching skills.

Essential Functions: 1. Participates in management of personnel. A. Serves as a professional role model and resource to staff and students by maintaining knowledge and expertise in clinical area. B. Promotes inter‐shift communication among staff members to achieve continuity of nursing care. C. Promotes and ensures the delivery of quality patient care through competency based assignments and supervision of staff. D. Implements appropriate review systems for annual competency and performance appraisals of staff. E. Assumes leadership for orientation and required competencies of nursing staff. F. Responds to and assumes appropriate leadership/coaching role in emergency codes/situations. G. Assists with attendance records, timecards, supply orders, and repairs, etc. to ensure the working continuity of the division. H. Implements disciplinary processes when necessary. 2. Participates in process/performance improvement activities: A. Maintains collaborative relationships with all members of the health care team to maximize care and patient outcomes. B. Responsible for assigned activities in the hospital/unit performance improvement. C. Collaborates with departments/leaders to achieve goals. 3. Supports the philosophy and objectives of the organization: A. Serves as a member of the leadership team and promotes organizational values and departmental vision and goals. B. Demonstrates appropriate problem solving and decision making skills, referring staff to appropriate resources as necessary. C. Develops leadership skills of staff and delegates responsibility as necessary. D. Promotes a healthy working environment through effective communication, conflict resolution, and staff empowerment. E. Demonstrates, and encourages others in, effective time management, flexibility and priority setting. F. Participates in, and monitors, monthly budget in collaboration with Director 4. Demonstrates own professional development: A. Develops own leadership skills by attendance at designated nursing and hospital‐wide development classes, self‐study and in‐services/conferences. B. Demonstrates awareness of need for self‐growth by assessing strengths and weaknesses and establishing goals per annual evaluation. C. Demonstrates effective time management, flexibility and priority setting.

Other Duties: 1. Encouraged to participate in the planning and presentation of educational programs. 2. Encouraged to participate in community activities. 3. Is authorized to access medications and storage areas in the performance of essential job functions and duties.
