Amazon Accounting Manager, Accounting in Sao Paulo, Brazil

Amazon is a fast paced, dynamic, high-tech company. The global accounting organization supports our financial reporting, internal control, intercompany, and transfer pricing activities and also supports new business launches globally for Amazon in the consumer products, initiatives, merchant, operations, logistics, payments, and cloud computing lines of business.

We are currently looking for a manager level candidate to help support the business growth in Amazon’s Sao Paulo, Brazil office. Successful candidates will have strong experience with financial reporting and internal control related responsibilities and have held similar positions in larger public companies or have held a senior manager level position. Candidates may have held controller or finance manager positions in public or private companies. Demonstrated experience in leading teams to accomplish unusually complex challenges is also expected.

This position will have responsibility for supporting the Latam Accounting team to oversee all parts of our financial accounting and reporting functions in the Latin America countries, reporting to a senior manager. In addition, this person will be expected to understand internal control design concepts sufficient to assess the effectiveness of controls in their area and to influence the design of systems, processes and controls for emerging and growing business activities. Technical accounting research and position paper writing is also a requirement for this position. Strong skills to consolidate and reconcile information from several different sources and communication to local and global teams in each country is also required.

Key job responsibilities

• Supporting various aspects of our accounting and reporting process.

• End-to-end process ownership to support finance and business partners.

• Understand internal control design concepts sufficient to assess the effectiveness of controls in their area and to design new processes and controls for emerging and growing business activities.

• Manage the period-end close process by ensuring the accurate and timely completion of all lease accounting entries and reconciliations.

• Manage key leased life cycle events.

• Perform analytical review of lease related balances and provide balance sheet account movements to support cash flow reporting.

• Drive projects, provide accounting guidance and often serve as first point of contact for finance and business partners to resolve issues.

• Ensure effective collaboration and influence across multiple organizations with partner teams and stakeholders.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field

  • Experience in building financial and operational reports/data sets that inform business decision-making

  • Experience in creating process improvements with automation and analysis

  • Knowledge of internal control framework (specifically COSO) to assess control design and operational efficiency

  • Knowledge of GAAP research tools and the FASB codification

  • Written and spoken fluency in English and Portuguese required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA, or CPA

  • Experience in accounting management in Big Four with Fortune 500 clients

  • Experience in identifying incomplete or inaccurate data, identifying the root cause and creating/implementing an escalation plan

  • Experience in solving complex business challenges by delivering accurate and timely financial models, analysis, and recommendations that have a proven impact on business (e.g., financial savings, operational improvements, or customer benefits)

  • Experience with accounting closing process, including preparing and reviewing reconciliations
