The Walt Disney Company Senior Manager, Business Analytics in Santa Monica, California

The Senior Business Analytics Manager role is responsible to deliver analytics and business insights to facilitate incremental advertising revenue for Disney’s portfolio of brands across all linear and digital ad formats for ABC, Hulu, ESPN, FX, National Geographic, Freeform, Disney Channel, among others within Disney Entertainment Television (DET).

Job Summary:

The Senior Business Analytics Manager will lead the employment of the financial planning and analysis process to promote the best short-term and long-term business decisions, while driving improvement in areas like: project support, revenue forecasting, budgeting, ROI optimization, business planning, reporting & analytics, development and measurement of KPIs, and consulting with business leaders.

A strong problem-solver, this role is expected to leverage both quantitative and qualitative methods to enable fact-based decisions to effectively drive and manage the business. A key partner to the executive leadership team, this role will be an integral collaborator with the Finance, HR, Operations and Revenue and Yield Management teams to identify and develop key business drivers tied primarily to metrics, reporting dashboards and analytical insights. As a trusted advisor, he or she will routinely work with sales leaders and key partners to enable good decision-making by understanding their business, highlighting risk/opportunities via analytics, and guide processes (e.g., goal setting, annual planning, etc.). Expect to routinely lead ad hoc projects that define the health of the total portfolio for Broadcast, Cable, and Sports (including Long Range Planning, Annual Operating Plan, market analyses, insights creation, etc.)

Successful candidates have a commitment toward action, have exceptional partnership and communication skills and know how to balance getting the details right while still moving fast. He or she is expected to balance finance with strategy & planning and is not afraid to ask difficult questions and seek the answers for them.

Responsibilities and Duties of the Role:

  • Function as SME for the financial performance of overall portfolio and raise the bar in how we track, analyze, report, forecast, and optimize customer revenue; help drive the rhythm of the business by participating in target setting and attainment.

  • Develop financial analysis to size opportunities & risks, ID key growth metrics, monitor trends & variances to our forecast and work with business owners to surface opportunities to drive incremental growth.

  • Serve as sparring partner to our decision-makers across the different regions & functions (Finance, Revenue and Yield Mgmt., HR, etc.)

  • Employ analytics into clear and compelling recommendations that allow for actionable decisions to decision-makers and executive management.

  • Conduct in-depth analyses of linear & digital datasets and develop top-level insights to share across internal teams.

Required Education, Experience/Skills/Training:

  • Statistics, general business or related Bachelors degree AND 7+ years of post-graduate experience in sales analytics, business analytics, or related field, preferably in the advertising industry.

  • Master’s degree or MBA preferred

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and storytelling skills with the ability to influence and persuade senior leadership and stakeholders.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills, with the ability to synthesize complex data and provide actionable insights and recommendations.

  • Adept technical/functional experience in Excel, BI Tool(s), and SQL.

  • Experience and familiarity with statistical methods and data tools (R, Python, SQL) that can be used to conduct statistical analyses.

  • Data processing and experience with data visualization and summary tools (Looker, PowerBI, Tableau) considered a plus.

  • Exposure to major linear and digital TV measurement reporting services (e.g. Comscore, iSpot.tv, Nielsen and VideoAmp, etc.).

  • Ability to navigate a highly complex, matrixed, organization.

  • Ability to execute fact-based analysis to drive insight into action; translates data into powerful stories via advanced PowerPoint skills.

  • Ability to act as a change agent and challenge the status quo; enable others to innovate.

  • Able to work comfortably & confidently under pressure and aggressive deadlines.

  • Is able to build relationships with and influence colleagues and functions (particularly those outside the candidate’s organization) to meet target delivery dates.

The hiring range for this position in New York, NY is $152,000 - $209,000 per year and in Santa Monica, CA is $148,700 - $199,400 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
