Robert Half Payroll Specialist in Santa Cruz, California

Description We are looking for an experienced Payroll Specialist to join our team in Santa Cruz, California, on a contract basis. This role involves managing payroll operations for a workforce of fewer than 100 employees, with a focus on compliance, accuracy, and proficiency in QuickBooks Desktop. Responsibilities:

• Process weekly and biweekly payroll cycles using QuickBooks Desktop, ensuring accuracy and meeting deadlines.

• Manage payroll operations for federal and state government projects, adhering to all regulatory requirements.

• Prepare and submit certified payroll reports for government-funded projects in compliance with applicable laws.

• Maintain accurate payroll records, including employee earnings, deductions, and tax details, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.

• Address payroll-related inquiries from employees, resolve issues, and provide updates on payroll processes.

• Stay updated on changes to payroll laws and implement necessary adjustments to ensure compliance.

• Collaborate with HR and accounting teams to verify employee data accuracy and enhance payroll workflows.

• Ensure compliance with prevailing wage laws and accurately report payroll details for government contracts. Requirements • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Payroll Specialist or in a similar role, preferably in organizations handling government contracts.

• Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Desktop is mandatory.

• Strong understanding of payroll laws, wage/hour regulations, and certified payroll requirements.

• Proven ability to manage payroll for weekly and biweekly schedules with precision.

• Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in all tasks.

• Effective problem-solving skills and the ability to perform under tight deadlines.

• Excellent communication and organizational abilities.

• Knowledge of prevailing wage laws and Davis-Bacon reporting is a plus but not required.
