Applied Materials Optical Transceiver Engineer in Santa Clara, California

The Optical Transceiver Engineer is responsible for the system design of the optical integrated products of the connectivity solutions for AMAT. It is a senior engineer that initiates initial blueprints of the products & solutions and is pulling the different engineering practices together to form a great engineering team. This role is also supporting Product Marketing with the Product Roadmap. The optical transceiver engineer is also a trusted partner of the customers. This role will get insights about product performance and needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the design of high-speed optical transceiver.

  • Product engineering from initiation to general availability including the design and characterization.

  • Assure design for performance, manufacturability, and cost.

  • Select Components for analog, digital, optical, and high-speed application.

  • Create Schematic and layout circuits at high speeds.

  • Work with test and firmware engineering in the development of transceivers

  • work with foundries to co-design and get PICs made

  • Carry on Design Verification Tests (DVT). Write technical reports.

Functional Knowledge

  • Experience of engineering transceiver technologies with proven market success or related PIC based technologies.

  • Knowledge of transmission, wide bandwidth circuits, passive devices, and optoelectronic devices (e.g., lasers, detectors, modulators)

  • Extensive experience using high-speed optical and electrical equipment: Oscilloscope, Network Traffic Analyzer, Optical Modulation Analyzer, Network Analyzer, Optical Spectrum Analyzer, Optical Attenuators, Wavelength meters, tunable filters, optical noise sources, etc.

  • Familiar with high-speed IC, such as DSP, modulator driver, transimpedance amplifier

  • Excellent communication skills, including active listening and questioning.

  • Fluent English language and experience communicating with people from different countries. Excellent presentation skills

  • Ideally candidates from the optics industry or other industries with high-speed connectivity

  • Ideally candidates with academic experience in optics and related fields

U.S. Salary Range:

$140,000.00 - $192,500.00

The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program, as applicable.

For all sales roles, the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role, which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
