Sonos Inc. Lead Hardware Design Engineer (Portables Embedded System Electronics) in Santa Barbara, California

Location: Santa Barbara, CA or Boston, MA Travel: some coast to coast and international travels Sonos is seeking an Electrical Engineer to lead the electronics development on the newly formed Portables Category Embedded Systems Team. As Electronics Lead, you will collaborate with the cross-functional Portables Leadership Team to define a new embedded system platform to enable low power, cost efficient, responsive, and connected portable products. In this hands-on role, you will implement the first prototype and partner with the embedded software team to bring up and integrate system functionality. With the platform developed, you will lead a joint design and manufacturing partner team of electronics engineers to design and manufacture products based on the platform. What You'll Do: Own the design and develop of the end-to-end mixed-signal embedded system electronics platform for a new category of portable audio products Work cooperatively across multiple disciplines in a fast-paced environment (including external vendor interactions) to achieve successful end results Lead a joint design and manufacturing partner team of electronics engineers to design and manufacture products Advance the electronics platform to add features and keep current with the latest technology Partner with advanced concept team to create functional prototypes for exploration and evaluation of product concepts Ensure compliance with all industry standards and regulatory requirements What You'll Need:Research shows that candidates from underrepresented backgrounds often don't apply for roles if they don't meet all the criteria. Basic Qualifications: Degree in Electrical/Electronic/Computer Engineering 6+ years of related industry experience Knowledge and experience in some of the following areas: system on chip embedded solutions, volatile and non-volatile memory architectures and standards, WiFi and Bluetooth communication standards, high speed IO standards (SDIO, USB), digital audio standards (I2S), audio amplifiers, battery monitoring and charging controllers/circuits, USB PD standard, power regulation/distribution (low power and peak power for transducer load) Hands-on experience with partial or complete ownership of mixed-signal consumer-level safety critical electronics design including: system bring-up, software integration, and troubleshooting Proven ability to work across multiple disciplines in one or more of the following: mechanical engineering, radio engineering, embedded software, hardware validation, compliance, audio etc. Well-developed technical leadership skills including: task & risk management, supplier oversight, and clear technical reporting and communications Ability to work with people with different culture background in different locations and time zones Preferred Qualifications: Technical: Experience designing for low-power battery operated portable audio products Experience designing basic RF circuits to enable WiFi and/or Bluetooth radios Experience in writing firmware for microcontrollers or experience in software development Knowledge and experience in resolving EMI and ESD issues.
