How will you make an impact in this role?
The AENB Controllership team within American Express is responsible for overseeing and managing the account
American Express National Bank
ng activities for American Express National Bank (AENB), an entity which comprises a significant portion of the American Express business. Broadly, the Controllership team ensures the integrity of the Banks’ financial results in accordance with U.S. GAAP, establishes an effective control environment over financial reporting, works to reduce controllable financial risk, and supports growth in the business. The department works extensively with other colleagues, including subject matter experts across Finance, Risk, Banking, Compliance, Technology, and General Counsel’s Office, among others. This position is part of the AENB Controllership team and plays a key role in the monthly intercompany accounting processes and management of the Regulation W 23A program.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Monthly general ledger close activities including completing journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis
End-to-end management and oversight of AENB issuer revenue accounting
Serve as a subject matter expert on intercompany transactions and for activities concerning Reg W Section 23A of the Federal Reserve Act
Responsible for critical deliverables demonstrating bank adherence to Reg W Section 23A, including assessing risk and impacts from new initiatives, products, and transactions
Perform and certify monthly, quarterly, and annually required PRSA control testing
Support audit requests from Regulators, Internal Audit, and Independent Compliance Testing on matters pertaining to Reg W 23A & intercompany accounting
Provide accounting support on special projects related to key business and financial initiatives
Build relationships and partner with other subject matter experts to manage key intercompany accounting activity
Proactively evaluate and seek opportunities for improvement through ongoing review of processes/methods of data collection and report preparation to create efficiencies and eliminate non-value-added work
Minimum Qualifications
2 plus years’ experience in Accounting / Auditing / Financial Reporting
Reliable, self-motivated individual with strong organizational capabilities and excellent attention to detail
A proactive team player with a passion to consistently deliver high quality service and exceed customers’ expectations
Ability to understand a business and unique internal processes and operations
A quick learner with superior problem-solving skills and a focus on generating efficiencies and continuous process improvements
Ability to manage multiple priorities, drive projects, improve processes, and work well under time-pressured deadlines
Capable of communicating and expressing ideas clearly and concisely, in both written and verbal formats
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and experience in data analysis and reporting
Solid understanding of US GAAP
Preferred Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in Finance or Accounting
Graduate degree and/or CPA a plus
Experience working in financial services or other highly regulated environment preferred
Experience in intercompany accounting and working knowledge of Regulation W
Qualifications
Salary Range: $55,000.00 to $105,000.00 annually bonus benefits
