JOB TITLE:EHS Teacher Assistant II (40 hours/week 12 months)FLSASTATUS:Non-exempt

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for the Nutrition component for the EHS program. To assist Early Head Start Teachers in the supervision and care of infant and toddlers in the Early Head Start Program. Employees in this classification receive direct or general supervision from a center Teacher or Teacher/Director and work on a day to day basis within the framework of standard policies and procedures. This job class provides assistance to infant and toddlers as well as in the implementation of program objectives and in providing responsible day care.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

- - Assists teacher in classroom care giving routines - Assists the teacher to work with individuals and groups of infants and toddlers - Assists in supervising and care of infant and toddler age children - Utilizes respectful individual and responsive care giving practices with infants and toddlers - Assists teacher in maintaining a clean, safe and orderly classroom environment - Assists children in bathroom procedures; performs diapering duties as necessary - Participates with teacher in home visits - Assists with the implementation of health, emergency procedures and first aid - Responsible for preparing meals and snacks - Ensure all CACFP guidelines are met, complete CACFP paperwork - Clean the kitchen and remove the trash daily - Keep food inventory up-to-date - Purchase groceries and non-food items on a weekly or monthly basis - Attends meetings and in-services - Record keeping and order supplies - Assists the teacher in maintaining a safe physical environment - Performs other related duties as assigned. -

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION:

  • Minimum: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Completion of a Child Development Associate certificate for Infants and Toddlers within one year of employment.

``` - Professional in manner and attire. - No record of a conviction which would contraindicate employment. - Must be 21 years of age and must have, at a minimum, a valid Class C Driver's License and a reliable vehicle with current liability insurance; insurable under HCCAA's vehicle insurance policy. - Every 2 years: a TB test with a negative reading. - Must comply with all HCCAA Policies, and maintain confidentiality in all phases of agency operations.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, move quickly, use hands to finger, handle to feel; and reach with hands arms. The employee is frequently required to sit on the floor and return to a standing position. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Hearing within normal range is required.

TYPICAL MENTAL DEMANDS:

Must handle new and diverse work problems on a daily basis. Personal maturity is an important attribute. Must be able to resolve problems, handle conflict, and make effective decisions under pressure. Must have the ability to listen objectively to people, perceive the real problem and assist in bringing issues to a successful conclusion. Must relate and interact with employees at all levels within the agency. Bilingual skills are encouraged. Knowledge of basic math and literacy skills. Ability to record data pertinent to HS/EHS Performance Standards.
