Colleen McAuliffe at Robert Half is offering an exciting 100% remote opportunity for a Tax Manager / Senior Manager based in San Jose, California. This role operates within the public sector and involves conducting thorough analyses to determine clients' state tax obligations, ensuring compliance with nexus laws and regulations. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing the taxability of goods and services, conducting in-depth research on complex tax issues, and managing multiple client projects of varying complexity.

Our client is seeking candidates working in either consulting or Public Accounting.

  • Experience Nexus Analysis

  • Voluntary disclosures

  • Experience mitigating with the state.

  • Tax research experience.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct thorough analyses to determine clients' state tax obligations.

• Ensure compliance with nexus laws and regulations.

• Assess the taxability of goods and services for accurate tax reporting.

• Conduct in-depth research on complex tax issues.

• Represent clients during tax audits, advocating for fair outcomes.

• Identify potential overpayments and assist clients in reclaiming refunds through meticulous review and documentation.

• Scrutinize sales and use tax returns for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

• Develop customized tax planning strategies to optimize clients' tax positions.

• Advise clients on the tax implications of various business transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, and expansions.

• Effectively manage multiple client projects of varying complexity, ensuring deadlines and objectives are achieved.

• Stay abreast of changes in tax laws and regulations to provide clients with accurate and timely advice.

• Collaborate with other professionals, including accountants, attorneys, and financial advisors, to deliver comprehensive tax solutions.

Requirements • Must possess significant experience in the role of Tax Manager within a public context

• Proficient in using Avalara software to manage tax-related tasks

• Demonstrated expertise in developing and implementing tax planning strategies

• In-depth knowledge and understanding of sales tax laws and regulations

• Proven experience in preparing and filing sales tax returns

• Ability to provide guidance and support to junior team members

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

• CPA certification is highly desirable

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• High level of integrity and professional ethics

• Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.
