Monday - Friday 8:30AM - 5PM

Pay rate: $17-21/hr depending on experience

Our client is a world-class research facility focused on understanding and developing therapies for neurodegenerative diseases. This position is for a full-time Lab Assistant 1 working with two Chemistry and Biochemistry lab groups focused on neurodegenerative disease research. The Lab Assistant will be trained to follow specific procedures for a Biosafety Level 2 environment and will be expected to carry out basic laboratory maintenance and research procedures independently. The ideal candidate would have experience interning/working in a research laboratory beyond classroom lab hours.

JOB DUTIES

  • Order, receive and inventory equipment, chemicals and other supplies

  • Monitor and maintain Biosafety and EH S procedures, including waste disposal and pickup.

  • General lab maintenance including some glassware washing and autoclaving, preparation of liquid media and agar culture plates, and routine maintenance of some equipment.

  • Protein expression procedures using bacterial, insect Sf9 and other cell culture methods.

  • Protein purification using affinity chromatography and other methods.

  • Molecular biology and biochemistry procedures including PCR mutagenesis, SDS-PAGE and Western Blot analysis.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Basic computer knowledge required

  • Good communication skills required

  • Previous experience in a biochemistry or chemistry lab preferred

  • Physical demands: requires sitting, standing, walking, squatting, bending, waist twisting, kneeling, climbing stairs/ladders, reaching up to shoulder height, lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling up to 50 lbs., fine finger manipulation, gross manipulation, simple grasp/power, repetitive hand/arm use; exposure to loud noise, fumes or gases, latex; ability to differentiate color, verbal communication, use of protective equipment
