Medtronic Principal Software Development Engineer in Test in San Diego, California

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Software Development Engineer in Test with expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP). As a key member of our technology team, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and executing comprehensive testing strategies for our cloud-based applications and services hosted on GCP. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of cloud technologies, strong leadership skills, and a proven track record of ensuring the reliability and performance of complex cloud solutions.

A Day in the Life

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  1. Test Strategy and Planning:
  • Develop and implement comprehensive testing strategies for cloud-based applications on GCP.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define testing objectives, scope, and deliverables.

  • Test Automation:

  • Design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks and scripts for GCP services.

  • Ensure continuous integration and delivery pipelines are robust and reliable.

  • Performance Testing:

  • Conduct performance testing to evaluate and optimize the scalability and reliability of cloud-based solutions.

  • Identify and address performance bottlenecks and issues.

  • Security Testing:

  • Collaborate with security experts to incorporate security testing into the overall testing process.

  • Ensure compliance with security standards and best practices.

  • Collaboration and Leadership:

  • Work closely with development, operations, and architecture teams to understand system architecture and design.

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the testing team.

  • Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution:

  • Investigate and troubleshoot complex issues related to cloud services and applications.

  • Work with cross-functional teams to resolve issues in a timely manner.

  • Documentation:

  • Create and maintain comprehensive test documentation, including test plans, test cases, and test reports.

  • Document and communicate testing processes and best practices.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree required

  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience

Nice to Have

  • Proven experience as a Test Engineer with a focus on Google Cloud Platform.

  • Extensive experience in test automation using tools like Cucumber, Java, Appium, JUnit, TestNG, or similar.

  • Strong scripting skills JAVA, Appium (e.g., Python, Shell) for test automation and infrastructure management.

  • Deep understanding of cloud computing concepts and GCP services.

  • Experience with performance testing tools (e.g., JMeter, Gatling) and methodologies.

  • Familiarity with security testing practices and principles.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities.

  • Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect or Professional Cloud Developer certification.

  • Experience with containerization and orchestration tools (e.g., Kubernetes).

  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD).

  • Knowledge of infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform).

  • Previous experience in a principal or lead testing role.

The provided base salary range is used nationally (except in certain CA locations). The rate offered is compliant with federal/local regulations and may vary by experience, certification/education, market conditions, location, etc.
