Planate Management Group LLC Mechanical Engineer (Athens, Greece) in San Diego, California

Join a high-impact, full-scale rehabilitation of a historic building in Athens as part of a major U.S. Government overseas initiative. This 24-month project demands precision, technical excellence, and a commitment to U.S. construction standards. We’re seeking a Mechanical Engineer to provide on-site technical expertise, QA/QC oversight, and ensure contract compliance throughout the construction lifecycle.
Location: Athens, Greece
Duration: 24 months | 50 hours/week (Overtime up to 10 hours/week with approval)
Clearance Required: Final Secret (Interim or Final Top Secret preferred)
Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct technical inspections of mechanical systems including HVAC, plumbing, power generation, and Building Automation Systems
• Monitor contractor performance and compliance with design specification
• Review engineering submittals and shop drawings, ensuring design intent and coordination across discipline
• Maintain detailed records: RFIs, submittals, inspection logs, and quality assurance documentation
• Prepare weekly and monthly progress report
• Evaluate and propose solutions to construction challenges in coordination with the Project Director
• Ensure contractor safety practices meet EM 385-1-1, OSHA, and project safety standards
• Support audits, commissioning, and final handover of mechanical systems
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is required from a U.S.-accredited institution; PE license may substitute for degree
• 7+ years of construction experience on projects of similar size and scope (design office experience does not count)
• Knowledge of Construction Safety regulations, i.e. EM 385-1-1, OSHA, etc
• Overseas construction experience preferred
• Working knowledge of international codes, U.S. construction standards, and commissioning processes
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Must possess a Final Secret, Interim Top Secret (ITS), or Final Top Secret (TS) clearance issued by Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA) at the time of proposal.
• Must be willing to work and relocate in Athens, Greece
