About the Role:
The Apprenticeship Program is a four-year program, in partnership with San Diego City College and the State of California Apprenticeship council. The Master Machinist Apprentice will learn to plan the sequence of operations, perform lay out work, set up and operate machine tools and equipment used in machining experimental, maintenance, and tooling parts.
What You Will Do:
Work with Master Machinists to learn how to plan sequence of operations, lay out work, set up and operate machine tools
such as lathes, mills, boring mills, planers, shape, duplicating machines, and grinders; perform machining operations in
construction and repair of machined facility parts, tools, developmental and experimental parts, or other related machine work.
Be instructed on how to perform tasks such as turning, milling, grinding, electrical discharge machining (wire and die sink), and jig boring.
Spend a certain number of hours learning how to perform duties working from Shop Floor Information System, operation
instruction sheets, assembly drawings, written and or oral instructions, and bills of material.
Understand how to plan and set up machine tools to fully utilize machine's capacity and minimize amount of machining and number of set-ups required.
Perform housekeeping duties and maintain a safe and clean working environment.
Utilize a working knowledge and application of shop mathematics.
Apprentices are required to complete a training program of four years (8,000 hours) of on-the-job training with qualified Journeymen.
Must attend related training classes for at least five hours per week until completion of the required courses. These courses
provide supplemental knowledge related to the offered trades and is unpaid time.
At the end of their Apprenticeship, apprentices are expected to perform the role of a Master Machinist (40145).

Have a high school diploma or one of the following equivalents: Diploma through G.E.D. issued by a high school; Certificate of High School
Equivalency issued by a State Board of Education Certification of High School Proficiency issued by a State Board of Education ; Completion of 15 units of college courses from an accredited college with grades of "C" or better
Promptly submit official, sealed copies of high school transcripts, or above equivalent, and any other documents verifying training or experience to the Apprenticeship Program Office.
Successfully complete a Caterpillar targeted selection interview.
Be a selected candidate through a final interview with the Joint Apprenticeship Committee.

Once an offer is made, the candidate must pass all Solar Turbines pre-hire requirements including eligibility to work in the United States, a background screening, and a drug screening test.
Fulfill all San Diego City College requirements for enrollment.

Summary Pay Range:
$26.00 - $44.51
