Shell Maintenance Technician in San Diego, California

Shell is seeking a Maintenance Technician to join out LA Lubricants team. The Maintenance Technician installs, tests, repairs, and maintains mechanical plant production machinery, support equipment, building, and other systems throughout the site to maintain optimum operating conditions and plant productivity. The Maintenance Technician also assists with related upgrades, improvements, and assigned projects as required.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide mechanical and electrical support

  • Receive and perform job assignments through work orders, sketches, PM schedules, blueprints or verbal instructions

  • Follow applicable codes and regulations on work performed

  • Respond to emergency requests for repairs/replacements, including fire system malfunctions which may be reported during off hours

  • Troubleshoot malfunctioning systems, apparatus and components using test equipment and hand tools

  • Locate and remedy the breakdown or malfunction

  • Repair and maintain a variety of production machinery and equipment including electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems and parts

  • Install, modify and relocate machinery and equipment and in addition to electrical related work, may perform fabrication, welding, mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, or other maintenance tasks.

  • Repair and modify building and plant systems as required

  • Read and interpret manuals, schematics, blueprints, drawings, and other written installation and repair instructions

  • Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance of assigned plant equipment, packaging machinery, conveyors and systems including gauges, filters, fluid levels, system readings, and air compressors

  • Requisition and secures materials, tools, and supplies needed for assignments

  • Use a variety of measuring and testing equipment to troubleshoot, maintain, and repair machinery, equipment and systems

  • Understand, troubleshoot, and repair tank equipment including gauging systems, high level alarms, temperature controls, and other apparatus

  • Execute engineering & maintenance activities in the Plant as determined by the maintenance schedule and in accordance with agreed cost targets, HSSE, Security and Environmental targets

  • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance and document all activities on pumps, motors, packaging equipment, conveyor systems, and other mechanical equipment

  • Oversee field maintenance tasks including equipment troubleshooting, installation/removal, repair and alignment

  • Perform complete overhauls on process pumps and ensure proper documentation of the repair including equipment condition history within SAP

  • Manage overhauls consisting of the following tasks, troubleshooting, disassembly, parts procurement, In-house parts fabrication using machine tools, assembly, leak testing, QA/QC, Install, align, perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot and repair pumps and seals

  • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance and document all activities on packaging equipment

  • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance and document all activities on compressed air systems

  • Inspect and repair steam lines, regulators, traps, and other steam related equipment

  • Basic preventative maintenance and troubleshooting of control valves

  • Use a wide range of shop, hand, and power tools common to the various trades applied

  • Maintains specified records, logs and system readings

  • Possesses knowledge of mechanical blueprint reading

  • Follow prescribed environmental, safety and health rules

  • Comply with sanitation guidelines and good manufacturing practices related to neatness, product cleanliness and personal hygiene

  • Manage third party contractor activities, Including job walks, job Scheduling, safety orientations, Permit writing (including JSA/JHA, LOTO, transfer, and permit close-out, and conducting periodic site safety audits

Requirements:

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis without the requirement of a work visa

  • Must be 18 years old

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

  • Possess a combination of technical training equivalent to that generally obtained in a two-year college or apprenticeship program

  • Ability to work independently and in concert with Electrical Technician as well as production co-workers

  • Minimum 4 years manufacturing work experience and/or 1 year Maintenance Technician, with experience & training to include:

  • Knowledge in Allen Bradley PLC (SLC-500 and/or PLC5), HMI, Control and Micrologix

  • Process Control & Instrumentation knowledge relating to temperature, flow, pressure, and level

  • Basic knowledge NFPA 70

  • Knowledge of machine Controls(480v, 230v, 120v and 24vdc)

  • Proficiency in variable frequency drive parameters

  • Ability to read and red-line P&ID’s, blueprints, schematics, and drawings

  • Ability to perform all required PM checklists (Lamination, Printing, Slitting, Building Infrastructure)

  • Skilled in troubleshooting of interrelated mechanical/electrical pump and conveyor systems

  • Knowledge of general maintenance techniques, processes, and procedures for the repair, installation, and modification of a variety of company equipment, systems and facilities

  • Skilled in the use of basic hand, shop and power tools and wide range of test and measuring equipment

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, maintenance manuals, schematics and drawings

  • Ability to conduct various tests to systems and must know and apply appropriate regulations and standards

  • Forklift Certification or ability to obtain same

  • Must willing accept overtime when required and be available for call-ins on off-shifts and weekends

  • Must be able to lift, stand on feet and walk for prolonged periods, climb ladders & stairs and work both inside and outside.(including in inclement weather)

This role is based in LA, California (Lubes Plant).

This starting hourly pay rate for this position is $40.17 per hour.
