Job Title: Lab Tech

Pay: $31 per hour

Job description:

As a contract research associate, you will assist in our high throughput screening team as part of an exciting enzyme screening effort in our renewable bioproducts platform. The individual will be engaged in a variety of roles throughout our strain construction, protein preparation, and assay pipeline where we will be screening for improved performance in microtiter plates.

You will develop, adapt, and execute high throughput screening techniques and assist in data tracking and management as we progress our enzyme engineering efforts. This includes the design and analysis of experiments and screens to improve enzymes for target characteristics. Additional efforts may include offline analysis of strains and enzymes to characterize enzyme candidates and develop new assays/methods for implementation into our high throughput pipeline.

Essential Education;

B.S. (Biochemistry, Biology, or Chemistry), 2 years of relevant lab experience

M.S. (Biochemistry, Biology, or Chemistry) and/or

Essential Experience and job Requirements:

  • Industrial research and development experience including:

  • Molecular and microbiology including experience with E. coli growth, lysis, and basic techniques of molecular cloning and/or

  • Practical experience in enzyme assay execution and development, automated liquid handling, and management of screening pipeline and workflows.

  • Technical knowledge in a broad range of fields such as molecular biology, biochemistry, and automation.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with project team leaders. Must be motivated, possess good interpersonal skills, communicate well within and between teams. Able to prioritize responsibilities and work effectively.

  • Demonstrated commitment to safety in the work environment.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Specific experience with Biomek or Agilent automated liquid handling systems preferred.

  • Enzyme assay execution and development. Experience with a broad range of enzyme assays is desired including assays based on analytical, fluorescent, or spectrophotometric outputs.

  • Protein purification expertise including purification of proteins using FPLC via affinity, ion exchange, and size exclusion chromatography.

  • Proficient in excel for data analysis and sample management. Use of excel-based tracking requiring good organizational skills and attention to detail.
