Senior, Data Scientist - Social Commerce

As the Senior Data Scientist - Social Commerce , you are responsible for providing insights and actionable recommendations through pattern recognition, Controlled Experiments and Causal Inference models to drive measurable marketing performance within all of Walmart's Social Commerce channels. You will help develop a holistic understanding of how product categories, marketing channels and other business levers work together to grow customer engagement, drive incremental sales, and contribute to longer term strategic objectives. You will partner closely with other teams on measurement & optimization methods and on developing and utilizing existing models and tools to establish interdependencies between product categories as well as Social Commerce channels. You will collaborate with Marketing, Product and Engineering to develop relevant solutions and timely insights which inform marketing strategy and enable data-driven decision making. Given the size and scale of the Marketing investment at Walmart, this position will be highly visible and have an opportunity to make a significant impact across the entire organization.

Our Marketing team offers a hybrid working model. You must reside or be willing to relocate within a reasonable driving distance to one of our hubs: Bentonville, AR, Hoboken, NJ, San Bruno, CA, or Los Angeles, CA. We are transitioning towards a model where associates are expected to be present in the office 2 to 3 days each week, while still allowing for some level of flexibility.

You will make an impact by:

  • Analyzing large and complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights to measure performance against competition and inform business growth opportunities

  • Researching, creating, and implementing advanced statistical models and cutting-edge machine learning algorithms on fast-moving structured and unstructured data to support decision making

  • Applying quasi-experiment techniques/causal models where controlled experiments are not applicable

  • Utilizing machine learning, time series analysis, and clustering, to generate predictive models or understanding customers to enhance marketing decision-making

  • Leading projects and take ownership of whole lifecycle of projects, communicate with cross-functional teams (e.g., Engineers, Finance, Merch, Ops, Marketing, etc.) to align progress and collaborate on integrations

  • Using Walmart's vast 1st Party and 3rd Party data to analyze customer behavior, build compelling customer segments and activate audience targets to drive business performance across channels.

  • Communicate findings and insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders through clear and concise reports, visualizations and presentations to gain alignment and drive business actions

  • Guide and mentor junior data scientists on modeling process and algorithm and foster a collaborative and innovative work environment.

You'll sweep us off our feet if:

  • You have strong grasp of statistical concepts including hypothesis testing, Bayesian inference, and causality.

  • You have proven record of developing causal models using various machine learning algorithms, tailored to solve marketing challenges.

  • You have in-depth understanding and experiences using machine learning libraries.

  • You have experience contributing to a high-performance culture delivering multiple projects, priorities in a fast-paced and growing segment of Walmart ecommerce business.

  • You can collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.

  • You have hands on experience and skill communicating complex quantitative information and insights to a broad audience of senior leaders & decision makers.

  • You are curious, proactive and comfortable working in unstructured environments.

What you'll bring:

  • Option 1- Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 6 years' experience in an analytics related field.

  • Option 2- Master's degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 4 years' experience in an analytics related field.

  • Expert at SQL and Python - ability to manipulate large quantities of data to drive business decisions is a must.

  • Solid knowledge of statistical concepts and experimentation

  • Proven advanced modeling experience in leading data-driven projects from definition to execution, driving and influencing project roadmaps

  • Strong organizational skills, a strong sense of ownership and accountability, and the ability to lead projects, communicate effectively, and be a self-starter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Business Administration or Master's Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering or related field.

  • 6+ years of experience in Marketing Analytics, Digital Analytics, or eCommerce Analytics with experience working with marketers to maximize marketing contribution to business performance goals.

  • Knowledge of machine learning and AI techniques to build and implement models that optimize marketing performance.

  • Rockstar data scientist who can come up with modeling/testing/statistical framework to answer ambiguous strategic questions from business stakeholders to then deliver data driven causal/observational insights that create aha moment driving the business ahead.

  • Model productionalization, creation/maintenance of data pipelines and data lakes for use in the models is NOT a focus of this role and done in collaboration with engineering teams.

  • Experience leveraging big data technologies (Hive/Hadoop) and modern data visualization tools (Tableau, ThoughtSpot, Looker) to blend data from multiple sources to help answer multi-dimensional business questions.

  • Experience building and applying customer segmentation, cohort models and personas to actionable results.

  • You have a passion for working in a fast-paced agile environment.

The annual salary range for this position is $117,000.00-$234,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
