Summary
The Lead Project Engineer is responsible for: creating project plans, executing, managing work, tracking, reporting progress, communicating with stakeholders, training, and educating stakeholders, and continuously improving the various cross-functional processes for execution of projects in the Lancer Engineering department. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the engineering resource managers, keep the team focused and motivated throughout the development and industrialization cycles, ensuring the on-time delivery of tasks as per approved plans.
Essential Functions
Apply effective Project Management Techniques, tools and processes to deliver electromechanical modules, assemblies, and final products as per approve plans.
Utilize Product Life Cycle (PLC) process, Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), and Enterprise Resource Management (ERP) to manage new products from inception to obsolescence.
Motivate the team to deliver with quality and sense of urgency.
Understand the product development flow, and proposed improvements.
Take high-level requirements and map them into the appropriate development team resources with support from the engineering managers, to ensure successful delivery per approved plan.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Experience in project management of engineering products.
Proven record for product delivery.
System understanding of mechatronics projects (both hardware, firmware, and software).
Good process background: Project management certification a plus (e.g. PMI or PDMA)
Ability to understand systems specifications, test specifications, datasheets, charts, and reports.
Ownership mentality, desire to deliver top quality at right cost, first time right.
Highly motivated, desire to solve problems and succeed (self-starter and driven).
Excellent written and oral communications skills, ability to provide project planning with sound technical trade-off arguments.
Good team player who works well in a multi-discipline, multi-cultural, technology and manufacturing environment.
Led project team of 5-20 engineers, designers, and technicians, in-house and outsourced, geographically dispersed.
Experience with electronic, mechanical, or mechatronics New Product Design/Introduction (NPI/D).
Familiarity with stage gate methodologies.
Familiarity with electronics, or mechanical, or mechatronics manufacturing ad operations.
Knowledge about Engineering Change Management, Engineering Change Requests/Orders/Notices.
Good Technical Presentation Skills. Experience presenting to executive leadership.
Strong English communication skills, both written and oral. Spanish is a plus.
Experience working in a project-oriented team.
Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast pace and dynamic environment.
Can observe and respond to people and situations and interact with others encountered in the course of work.
Can learn and apply new information or skills.
Must be able to read and interpret data, information, and documents.
Strong customer focus and commitment to customer satisfaction through prioritization, quality, efficiency, and pro essionalism.
Education and Experience
BS Engineering with a major in Electrical, Computer, Software, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Production, Industrial Engineering, or similar engineering fields. MS or MBA is a plus.
5+ years relevant design and/or project management experience with electronics, mechanical or mechatronics products, in a manufacturing environment.
Spanish language is a plus.
PMI or PDMA certification is a plus.
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, filing cabinets. The employee is exposed to outside weather conditions if out in the manufacturing site. The noise level in the work environment is typically low to moderate.
