Applied Research Associates, Inc. Hardware Engineer in San Antonio, Texas
Description
The Capabilities, Analysis and Development (CAD) division of Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) has an outstanding opportunity for a Hardware Engineer. The qualified candidate will support hardware and sensor R&D projects that utilize skills in design, fabrication and assembly. The candidate will support ongoing projects that would utilize their skills in digital / analog electronics and mechanical hardware design, fabrication, prototyping, and final assembly. The right person will act as a technical lead to ensure tasks are completed on schedule and budget. This candidate will support interdisciplinary teams of scientists and engineers developing and enhancing the nation’s modeling and simulation tools used to model high energy weapons effects in support of national security and warfighter needs.
Required Qualifications:
Must be a US Citizen
Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or similar with 8 – 10 years of experience OR 15+ years of experience in lieu of a degree
Expert user with:
Solidworks 3D mechanical design and simulation software
KiCad (or similar) Printed Circuit Board schematic capture and layout
Microcap 12 (or similar) electrical design and simulation software
Hands on experience with Analog <1GHz and digital circuit design, fabrication, troubleshooting, debugging
Expert user of general-purpose test equipment such as:
Vector Network Analyzers
Time Domain Reflectometry
High Speed Oscilloscope use (>5 GS/s)
High Speed Data Acquisition systems (>1MS/s)
Spectrum Analyzer
Signal Generator
Hands on experience with manual / CNC Lathe / Mill operations, MIG, TIG and SMAW welding (ferrous, stainless and aluminum)
Preferred Qualifications:
Current and active DoD security clearance
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or similar with 10-12 years of experience OR 20+ years of experience in lieu of a degree
Expert with LabView and National Instruments hardware
Familiarity with high voltage/pulsed power generation and characterization measurements
Ability to hand solder surface mount technology components
Ability to interpret and process collected data and using interpreted languages similar but not limited to Python or MATLAB
Willing and able to learn and apply programming in Python, C, C++, Java
Experience with CAD/CAM and ability to generate toolpaths and create parts internally or interface with external fabrication vendors
Able to work effectively in an off, laboratory, shop and field environments
