SUMMARY:

The Commercial Operations Team manages all domestic and international operative and logistics matters for waterborne cargoes on Marathon time-chartered vessels. Coordination includes closely managing voyages with vessel Captains, Brokers, Chartering, Trading, Scheduling, Agents, Tug providers, Bunker Vendors and Terminals. This position reports to the Commercial Marine Operations Manager and is part of a highly integrated Marine team working across all commodity types.

This position is part of a job family with multiple grade levels. The successful candidate will be placed at a level commensurate with experience and qualifications.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Executes marine voyages for Marathon or its customers with a focus on safe and efficient operations.

  • Monitors and assist in execution of vessel schedules and cargo plans for all chartered vessels.

  • Supports day-to-day voyage management of vessels by planning and supporting vessel voyages. Ensures vessel tanks are properly prepared as per company/industry standards.

  • Monitors vessels to comply with the charter party contract.

  • Issues written voyage orders for chartered vessels.

  • Facilitates port/cargo operations to optimize costs. Appoints/nomination of port agency.

  • Completes accurate review and payment of freight invoices, time charter hires, and port expense invoices in alignment with contractual obligations. Resolving conflicts as required.

  • Serves as the primary interface between Marathon internal stakeholders, vessels, and ports.

  • Coordinates actualization and reporting of voyage economics.

  • Provides timely management and reporting of commercial and operational impact on chartered vessel incidents.

  • Interfaces between internal stakeholders to develop vessel schedules, optimization, and utilization.

  • Plans voyage bunker requirements. Negotiates bunker purchases on time-chartered vessels.

  • Coordinates Marine voyages in IMOS and properly manages voyage communications.

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Bachelor’s degree from a Maritime Academy preferred.

  • 3 or more years of commercial marine operations, chartering, vessel agent or related experience required.

    SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Fundamental knowledge of tank vessel operations.

  • Ability to multi-task effectively and meet critical deadlines.

  • Ability to prioritize and establish sense of urgency.

  • Ability to see big picture, understand how different aspects of an origination, operation and industry contribute to the final result(s).

  • Ability to make risk-based and well-reasoned decisions with uncertain information and in the face of material financial risk and operational stress.

  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment with minimal supervision.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as sound approach for stakeholder management.
