Valero Audit Intern (On-Going) in SAN ANTONIO, Texas

Are you ready to join the world’s largest independent refiner? Valero is on the search for energetic and motivated students to join the Valero Intern Program. The internship program has an opening for an Audit Intern who is ready for new and exciting challenges in a fast-paced environment.

The internship will provide practical audit experience and will allow interns to apply accounting and audit concepts and principles to develop the core competencies needed to succeed in a business environment.

The internship will continue for a minimum of one year, contingent upon performance.

Major Accountabilities:

  • Identifies key risks and the related controls within business processes and design control test steps to address key risks.
  • Assists with assurance and advisory service activities within all areas of the Company, including delivery of improvement opportunities that add value to management.
  • Assists in engagement project planning including initial client interviews, preparation of engagement planning memorandums and risk matrices.
  • Executes test steps to assess operational effectiveness of key controls, providing clear and concise testing documentation for review.
  • Examines activities of all areas of the Company to determine the extent of compliance with policies and procedures, and rules of regulatory agencies.
  • Assists with the identification of potentially fraudulent activity through the review of contracts, invoices, data analytics, public records, and social media.
  • Assists in the preparation of written reports of audit results and the follow up of audit recommendations made to ensure implementation.
  • Demonstrates teamwork and responsibility with engagement team members.

This position is hourly nonexempt status, which means you are eligible for overtime pay.

Qualifications:
* Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree (or higher) in Accounting, Finance or related field required. * Overall GPA of 3.0 (or higher) on a 4.0 scale preferred. * Obtained at least 60 credit hours by the start of internship (Summer 2024) required. * Graduation dates of May 2025 through May 2026 required. * Able to work 20-25 hours per week during the Fall/Spring semesters required. * Able to work 40 hours per week during the Summer required. * This is an on-going internship and will continue a minimum of one year. * Candidate required to live within commuting distance to San Antonio, TX and work on-site, in person at the Valero Headquarters. * Microsoft Office applications and database application experience preferred. * Strong analytical, communication, and human relations skills preferred.
