This Engineering Technician III located in the Division 3 District 2 office is an advanced level position that will be responsible for the processing and review of driveway permits, site plans, utility and non-utility encroachment agreements, subdivision plans, and road additions/abandonments. This position will perform on-site inspections for compliance to NC DOT specifications for driveway permits, encroachments and subdivisions.
Employee will conduct pre-construction meetings with requesting parties. This position will perform field inspections and prepare deficiency letters as it relates to road additions, driveway permits and encroachments.
This position will meet with utility representatives, contractors, property owners, and others to discuss adherence to policies and procedures, answer questions, and address complaints from the general public by telephone, written correspondence, or in person. This position will assist the Division as needed during emergencies and inclement weather. This position will also assist the District Engineer with other tasks as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Additional Expectations
Ability to work safely in an outside environment with exposure to hazards on construction sites including heights, highway traffic, weather extremes, and traversing rough terrain. Must be able to perform moderate physical activity including but not limited to walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling and standing. Must be able to lift 50lb. Knowledge and skill in using general office software on computer and tablets. Must be able to work nights and weekends as needed, on any assigned project within the Division. Experience with HiCAMS and Sharepoint is preferred. Safety toe shoes will be required. May be subject to work nontraditional hours (nights and weekends) periodically pre – during – and post storm events. May be subject to night and weekend work to perform inspection duties.
Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
