Job Description

AECOM Technical Services, Inc. has multiple openings for a Mid-Level Geotechnical Engineer to be based in Salt Lake City, UT.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Participate in field assignments for projects with retaining walls, foundations, and slopes.

  • Field work includes soil and rock borings, test pits, CPT soundings, and geotechnical instrumentation design and construction.

  • Travel to complete field work and perform inspections, as needed.

  • Assign laboratory testing and develop material properties for soil and rock and perform geotechnical evaluations including liquefaction triggering and slope stability analysis.

  • Execute project assignments in a hybrid office-telecommuting environment while using critical thinking and engineering procedures to carry out project tasks.

  • Design shallow and deep foundations, earth retaining structures, embankments, and cut and fill slopes.

  • Use computer programs including GeoStudio, LPILE, GROUP, SHAFT, and Settle3 for geotechnical analyses.

  • Prepare geotechnical work plans, geotechnical reports, alternative analysis, etc., and review design plans and specifications for compliance with geotechnical recommendations and communicate with multiple disciplines and provide design improvement recommendations.

  • Mentor and train junior geotechnical engineers.

  • Have the opportunity to meet with clients and participate in proposals. 10% business travel to various unanticipated sites throughout the United States (National).

  • May telecommute.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

Candidates must have a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or related field, and 4 years of experience in the job offered, or in an engineering related occupation.

4.  Settlement analysis;

5.  Bearing capacity;

6.  Soil mechanics;

7.  Structural geology;

8.  Field exploration;

9.  Foundation design;

10.  Retaining wall design;

11.  Liquefaction triggering analysis; and

12.  Report preparation.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $108,098.00 - $129,912.47.
