Job Summary

Shop Technician needed with at least two years of related experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); demonstrated knowledge of general maintenance and associated tools; the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and climb step ladders/scaffolding; and, demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills required.

Responsibilities

  1. Assists the shop personnel and Faculty with projects related to shop equipment to support the college’s curriculum and mission.

  2. Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment and tools in the shop.

  3. Follows supervisor’s instructions to ensure the shop functions appropriately while providing students with shop-related education.

  4. Conducts routine checks on machinery to determine maintenance required for proper operation.

  5. Training and operation of several different types of shop-related equipment including a CNC Machine and Laser Cutter.

  6. Assists in the transportation of tools and equipment as needed.

  7. Suppors the shop with routine and semesterly cleaning duties and responsibilities to maintain a clean and safe workshop.

  8. Employees may unlock/open the building in the morning and lockdown/close the shop in the evening.

  9. Employee may need to work weekends and other hours outside of regular operating hours (8:00 a.m.—5:00 p.m.).

  10. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years relevant work experience in the applicable trades areas; a basic understanding of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, heating, air conditioning, and welding; and the ability to move heavy objects required. A valid Utah Driver’s license; positive oral and written communications skills along with excellent customer service skills; and the ability to read and work from wiring diagrams, appliance handbooks, blueprints, and drawings also required. Training at a technical college in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, diesel engine repair, welding, or refrigeration and air conditioning or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) is preferred.
