Job Summary

TheRoy labat the Moran Eye Center is seeking a research assistant. to work on projects aimed at understanding visual processing in the retina. Current research in the lab utilizes state of the art electrophysiological, imaging and computational approaches for studying signal processing in the retina.

The candidate will work under the guidance of the PI. The candidate is expected to work closely with lab personnel and perform tasks such as processing retinal (and brain) tissues for immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence, imaging tissues using confocal microscope, and analyzing confocal images using software such as ImageJ and Matlab. The candidate will work with other lab members and assist in other tasks as needed. The candidate will help generate preliminary figures for scholarly work for submission to peer-review journals. There will be opportunities to acquire new skills in wet lab work and computational work.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Coordinating with researchers to obtain and store tissues.

  • Processing tissues for IHC , IF. Working with light microscope.

  • Imaging tissues using confocal microscope.

  • Analyzing images using software (ImageJ, Matlab) and generating quantifiable results using statistical methods.

  • Reviewing literature.

  • Storing electronic copies of results and assisting with generating figures for manuscripts.

  • Participating in lab meetings and presenting results.

Work environment:

  • Collaborative. Wet lab and computational work. There may be exposure to mice.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience with wet lab work.

  • Must be an enrolled student at the University of Utah.

Preferences

  • Responsible, collaborative, and communicative. Computational skills desirable.
