Job Description:

The Redevelopment Agency is looking for a Gallivan Center Director to direct, plan, and administer all activities of the Gallivan Center Plaza. This position will supervise the management operations, programming, and maintenance of the Plaza. Coordinate the programming, maintenance budgets, oversee fund raising and promotion of facility and events, and be responsible for the long-term planning and success of the facility. This role will work closely with various public and private agencies in the coordination and use of the Gallivan facility. In addition, this role will ensure required staffing levels are maintained, direct utilization of staff and equipment, and resolve personnel issues.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

  • Manages the development, staffing, and operation of the Gallivan Center Plaza, including programming, maintenance, rentals, promotion, and fund raising. Represent the Gallivan Center to other City Departments, elected officials, and outside agencies.

  • Hires, trains, disciplines, administrative staff and evaluates programming. Determines staffing needs for full-time, seasonal, and contractual staff. Determines accessibility and security necessary for safety of public on continuous basis.

  • Directs development and administration of more than 200 annual programs and events held at the Plaza. Evaluates programs for cost/utility and recommends changes for improvement or replacement.

  • Coordinates with various community organizations, city departments, adjacent property owners, and stakeholders to implement programs and events. Negotiates related contracts, concessions, facility usage, purchasing, sponsorships and special events.

  • Coordinates the programming activities and events with the operations manager and overall maintenance efforts for the plaza. Additionally, works closely with Block 57 Owner’s Group programming coordination, and budget.

  • Administers annual budgets for the maintenance and programming of the Gallivan Center. Responsible for cash flow from programs. Organizes and carries out fund raising activities and solicitation of sponsors. Approves expenditures and ensures all programs are operating within budget.

  • Develops appropriate marketing strategies for promotion of daily and special events and programs. This includes all aspects of media and public relations, including but not limited to advertising, public service announcements, and event coverage.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in Recreation, Fine Arts, Marketing, Business Administration, or closely related field and five (5) year’s paid work experience in programming and administration including two (2) years in a supervisory capacity. Education and work experience may be substituted one for the other on a year-for-year basis.

  • Experience in budget administration, fund raising, corporate solicitation, and marketing.

  • Ability to plan, organize, and implement special event programs and administer them within established constraints.

  • Knowledge of maintenance, security, and safety requirements.

  • Ability to travel from one work location to another.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Moderate physical activity. Required to push, pull or lift medium weights. Uncomfortable working positions such as stooping, crouching and bending. May have a few disagreeable elements such as exposure to outdoor weather conditions.

  • Exposure to stress as a result of human behavior, deadlines, raising funds to meet budget, and weather conditions.

  • May require considerable hours over 40 per week. May be available to work on various evenings and weeks.
