JOB SUMMARY

The Development Officer provides resource development support to the district and the Salt Lake Educational Foundation by assisting in planning and implementing the district's fundraising efforts by working with schools, PTA's, alumni groups, as well as corporations, and foundations, and engaging in stewardship, donor recognition, and proposal/grant writing.

 

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

All positions require selected candidates to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a criminal background check.  Additional minimum required qualifications for this position are:  

  1. Bachelor's degree
  2. Standard bookkeeping abilities
  3. Knowledge of fundraising concepts, codes, policies, regulations, and/or laws; the community; and area resources
  4. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and experienced using data-based software
  5. Valid Driver's License with evidence of insurability and reliable personal transportation
  6. Speak, read, write, and present professionally, analyze, and interpret English written and verbal communications
  7. Ability to operate standard office equipment, computer, phone, copy, and fax machine, etc.

     

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

These are examples of skills and experience that the best-qualified candidates may have.  Not having one or all of them does not disqualify any candidate from consideration.

  1. Three (3) years of job-related experience in development, fundraising or a related field
  2. Extensive experience with nonprofit fundraising software, specifically Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT, Financial Edge
  3. Extensive experience in grant writing 
  4. Intermediate-level Microsoft Office Suite skills
  5. Experience in a K-12 education or public employment environment
  6. Spanish or other language proficiency, including ability to read, write, speak, and understand

     

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Collaborate with a wide variety of individuals, departments, groups, and organizations (e.g., local and national foundations; city, county, and state agencies; district employees and administration; corporate representatives; PTA; etc.) to solicit funds to support new and on-going programs while implementing assessment tools to provide accurate evaluative information
  2. Coordinate grant applications and related documents to solicit funding from a variety of sources to support district schools
  3. Develop comprehensive stewardship programs, family, and student support programs, etc. to meet donor expectations and school needs and to report the impact of designated funds
  4. Maintain program participation, contacts, fiscal expenditures, donor database, and other files  
  5. Manage solicitation, research, drafting, management, tracking, reporting, archiving, and grants and proposals to secure funding and oversee grant compliance
  6. Monitor scholarships, faulty development awards, endowments, and other programs
  7. Prepare donor and prospective donor correspondence, informational mailings, event invitations, funder profiles, proposals, brochures, and other written materials to cultivate potential donors, inform existing donors, and solicit funding sources
  8. Research potential funding sources (e.g., foundations, corporations, individuals, etc.) to tailor communications and solicitations tow rd developing additional funding sources for current and proposed services and programs
  9. Respond to inquiries from a variety of internal and external parties (e.g., teachers, community organizations, regulatory agencies, donors, etc.)
  10. Communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and building positive working relationships with employees and stakeholders
  11. Participate in meetings, workshops, and seminars, as assigned to convey and/or or gather information required to perform functions
  12. Work under limited supervision, utilizing time-management and prioritization strategies, accurately processing detailed information, and meeting deadlines 
  13. Support a team environment by collaborating with own and other work units to effectively perform the duties of the position
  14. Adapt to changing work priorities and work with frequent interruptions, as required
  15. As needed, roll, push, pull, bend, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and lift up to 30 pounds
  16. Maintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements efficiently and effectively
  17. Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands:  some lifting up to 30 pounds, rolling, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 60% sitting, 20% walking, and 20% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
