Job Summary
As a Student Success Coordinator (SSC) you will assist the Student Engagement, Experience, & Achievement (SEEA) office to create a welcoming and engaging environment that supports student success. Under the leadership of the Assistant Director for SEEA Student Success Initiatives, you will support a cohort of students who primary are transitioning out of foster care. This includes assisting students in creating a success plan that addresses academic, financial, career, and personal goals. Moreover, as the SSC will support students with their experience at the college with exposure to engagement opportunities to foster a sense of belonging as well as helping students navigate policies, processes, and procedures pertaining to their academic needs. As the SSC you will actively work to build rapport, connect students with college and community resources, identify and mitigate challenges and barriers, and provide support that leads to persistence/retention and successful completion.
This position is also a critical team member to the student success program SEEA provides such as educational events, student success celebrations, and represent SEEA on division-wide planning committees. The SSC will support the student success initiatives team with planning, execution, and meeting intended outcomes of all student success programming.
The SSC will use MySuccess (Starfish) to document interactions, make referrals, respond to flags and proactively care for students in a collaborative manner. You will also use DegreeWorks to assist students towards their path. The SSC will use Degree Works to assist students towards their degree path. The SSC will lead and assist with programming, educational workshops, celebratory events, focus/discussion groups for students and other SEEA/ SLCC staff responsibilities. Additionally, the SSC will facilitate leadership development in supervising student leaders.
The ideal candidate is knowledgeable in student development theory and has experience in employing high impact practices. They are dedicated to student success and fluent in the use of data to guide work and tell a compelling story. The candidate demonstrates exceptional communication skills by using multiple modalities and works independently as well as collaboratively. They also promote innovative ideas on how to reach and engage students.
Student Engagement, Experience, & Achievement (70%)
- - Support a cohort of students through individual and group interactions. - Advise, mentor, and support assigned CARE Network student cohort through implementation of the CARE Network active outreach plan and accompanied timeframes. - Assist students in creating a success plan that addresses career, academic, financial, and personal goals. - Actively work to build rapport, connect students with college and community resources, identify and mitigate challenges and barriers, and provide support that leads to persistence/retention and successful completion. - Document all student meetings, group meetings and event attendance in MySuccess and other data collecting platforms used by SEEA within 24 hours of a meeting. - Use MySuccess (Starfish) to document interactions, make referrals, respond to flags and proactively care for students in a collaborative manner. - Meet with assigned student populations and others in 1:1 or group settings in multiple mediums---in-person, virtual, telephone, texting, and email. - Coordinate and collaborate with departments across the institution to identify resources that respond to students' social, economic and educational needs to make appropriate referrals for students. - Maintain confidentiality of student records and interactions, including adhering to SLCC's FERRA policy. - Stay abreast of college, community, state, and federal resources, and make appropriate referrals to pplicable resources. - With superior approval, participate in required and other relevant trainings related to student success. - Keep abreast of best practices to enhance persistence, retention, attrition and student success. - Use various communication, documentation and assessment platforms. - Evaluate and identify trends, recommendations or areas for improvement in the delivery of services to students.
Student Experience & Development (20%)
- Develop, facilitate, implement or assist with orientation, workshops and other activities for assigned student populations and other students addressing elements of student development and success.
- Facilitate, assist and collaborate with SEEA team, campus partners, and community to develop, support, and host unit or campus-wide motivational and educational activities, workshops, programs, or conferences that create a sense of community and enhance student belonging with awareness and responsiveness.
- Develop and assist with marketing and outreach of all assigned programming and events.
- Provide documenting strategies for attendance and participation of all assigned programming and events.
- Provide assessment for student learning outcomes within one month of event to review by SEEA leadership.
- Attend all planning meetings and events assigned.
- Adhere to college policies, procedures, and SEEA expectations with event planning.
- Provide mentoring, coaching and advising for assigned SEEA student leader
