The University of Utah is seeking to recruit a board-certified colon and rectal surgeon to join the section of Colon and Rectal Surgery at the Assistant/Associate or full Professor rank. This is an outstanding opportunity to join a well-established, supportive program in a great location to work and live. The recruit would join a group of three surgeons supported by one physician assistant, surgical residents, and a colorectal fellow.

While not required for this position, the Department of Surgery is also actively seeking a Vice Chair of Research to lead its broad research programs and expand the strong research infrastructure to further support academic faculty and trainees in their research endeavors. Individuals with a strong research background, established extramural funding, experience in running research programs and strong faculty mentorship background will also be considered.

We, therefore, welcome applications from those whose main interest is clinical as well as those who are further in their academic careers with research leadership experience interested in the Vice Chair of Research position.

As the tertiary referral center for the largest geographic catchment area in the continental US, the section of colon and rectal surgery provides evaluation and management for a wide range of colon and rectal diseases. We have a robust clinical practice including complex multidisciplinary care of colorectal cancer, IBD , and pelvic floor disorders. The surgeons also serve as teaching faculty for the University of Utah General Surgery residency program and a new Colon and Rectal Surgery fellowship. Leadership opportunities within the Department of Surgery may exist for the appropriate candidate.

  • Shared weekend call with surgical oncology (approximately 1:10)

  • Robotic surgical block time

  • Robust global surgery program with opportunities for teaching abroad

Requirements:

  • Board certified in Colon and Rectal Surgery

  • Strong clinical productivity

  • MIS experience (laparoscopy and robotics)

  • Ideally 3-5 years post training experience

  • Ability to work in a collegial manner

  • Desire and ability to support the academic and educational mission of the University of Utah
