Actalent QA Technician in Saint Charles, Missouri

Job Title: QA TechnicianJob Description

This is a temporary position with the potential to become permanent over the summer. The QA Technician will support the commissioning of a new line by assisting in data collection, analysis, documenting FSQ activities, and ensuring compliance with all company, customer, regulatory, and BRC requirements. The technician will also maintain a safe and clean working environment and follow all company safety rules and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Support operations and quality by assisting in data collection, analysis, documenting FSQ activities, communication, and guidance to ensure compliance with all company, customer, regulatory, and BRC requirements.

  • Monitor GMPs in production and warehouse for compliance and record on approved forms.

  • Perform Test & Measuring Equipment (scale, thermometer, moisture analyzer, etc.) calibrations and project assignments in a timely, safe, and professional manner; report results and issues to FSQA Supervisor.

  • Conduct incoming raw material inspections, verify and file COAs for incoming materials, and other receiving documents.

  • Inspect finished products and processing parameters to ensure compliance with customer’s specifications and manufacturing instructions. Generate COAs as needed and send them to the customer in a timely manner.

  • Conduct finished product label verification.

  • Notify production personnel of deviations in product quality and place products on hold when necessary.

  • Conduct pre-operational inspections and collect microbiological swab samples for environmental monitoring, including air, water, drains, and equipment surfaces.

  • Verify Preventive Control Points daily and ensure Food Safety daily checks are performed.

  • Coordinate, schedule, and perform pizza bake-offs weekly and conduct texture analysis when required. Measure, collect and enter data into spreadsheets for trending.

  • Maintain appropriate records of tests, inspection results, and observations.

  • Maintain accurate records of QA hold products, retention sampling, foreign material incidents, non-conforming products, customer complaints, and pre-op swabbing results.

  • Notify FSQA Manager, Coordinator/Supervisor, and Plant Manager of unusual product observations to ensure potential quality issues are identified, reviewed, and resolved prior to product release.

  • Assist in training new employees.

  • Other duties as assigned, including organizing and assembling daily records’ packets for Operations team and FSQ department, creating FSQ Talking-Points/OPLs for shift huddles, various improvement projects such as creating SOP binders, Pack Room Quality OPL, and leading FSRA/GMP audits on their shift.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of a high school education or GED.

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in written English.

  • 1 year of food manufacturing experience.

  • 1 year of Quality Assurance experience preferred.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with all line-level positions and management.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) and other computer skills.

  • Familiarity with label printers and measuring device equipment.

  • Scientific base of knowledge.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in Chemistry, Food Safety, FSQA, GMP, HACCP, Quality Assurance, Biology, and Laboratory.

  • Understanding of Food Safety in a manufacturing environment.

  • Experience with Document Control.

Work Environment

The work environment is split between the lab and performing QA checks on the production floor to ensure the product meets internal and client standards and complies with government regulations. The plant operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The schedule includes working up to 48 hours a week, Sunday through Saturday, with a rotating pattern of 4 days on and 4 days off. The position requires the ability and willingness to work overtime, any shift, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Dress code and safety attire must be adhered to at all times.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.73 - $21.73/hr.
