Purpose:

  • Perform a variety of field tasks associated with surveying & geospatial data collection.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Direction:

  • Perform work under moderate supervision requiring the need to exercise independent judgement and discretion on an occasional basis.
  • The position does not include direct supervisory responsibilities but will serve as a lead/resource among team of colleagues in equivalent roles to share technical proficiency, guidance, and mentorship.
  • May occasionally assist in delegation of assignments or provide feedback to managers.

At the Operational and Company Level:

  • Assist with the marketing of the firms capabilities to establish new clients and enhance relationships.

Do the Work:

  • Provide day-to-day supervision of assigned survey field crew on quality and survey methodology, including training and mentoring of junior level employees.
  • Coordinate with contractors to provide survey services.
  • Identify controls for property lines and make the appropriate decisions regarding how to proceed with the survey.
  • Gather all necessary information needed to properly conduct the survey in the most time efficient manner and assign tasks to crew members.
  • Discuss work with clients, as necessary.
  • Make calculations and maintain records essential to survey.
  • Ensure that assigned survey truck is properly maintained.
  • Maintain and inventory all assigned equipment.
  • Communicate with management to maximize efforts and man-hours.

Education, Work Experience, Licensure/Certifications, and Technical Requirements:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent commensurate experience required.
  • Associates or Bachelors degree preferred.
  • Minimum of three to five (3-5) years relevant experience working on a land surveying party.
  • Prior Party Chief experience a plus.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil3D preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of construction stakeout procedures and practices.
  • Familiar with field procedures for performing boundary and ALTA/NSPS land title surveys.
  • Ability to perform all aspects of data collected field fun topographic surveys, road frontage cross-section surveys and as-built surveys.
  • Through knowledge of total station, GPS and data collection, with the ability to adapt to new equipment and technologies.
  • Ability to work outside in all seasons.
  • Ability to travel and work out of town.
  • Must hold a valid state drivers license and successfully pass a motor vehicle check, no exceptions.

Physical Demands and Working Environment:

  • Primarily outdoor work environment which may include adverse weather conditions, varying temperatures, excessive noise, and/or potential hazards.
  • Mobility around a job/construction site to include walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, or kneeling and wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Frequent and prolonged use of data collection equipment and/or drones, necessitating walking the assigned study area to complete data collection over the course of several hours.
  • Primarily local travel during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required according to the needs of the business.
  • Occasional indoor professional office environment which may include bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.
  • Mobility around an office environment.
  • Occasional lifting or carrying up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasional pushing or pulling up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasional reaching outward or above shoulder.
