Built-in 1973 Dignity Health Methodist Hospital of Sacramento is committed to providing daily excellence in health care for residents of Sacramento’s southern suburbs including the Elk Grove Wilton and Galt communities. Methodist Hospital is home to a 158 acute-care bed facility with 1120 employees 283 medical staff and 29 Emergency Department beds. Methodist Hospital also owns and operates Bruceville Terrace – a 171-bed sub-acute skilled nursing long-term care facility adjacent to the hospital that provides care for the elderly as well as those requiring extended recoveries. Methodist Hospital is home to the Family Medicine Residency Program an accredited and nationally recognized program which provides resident physicians with specialty training in primary care family medicine. Together the hospital and residency program implemented a ground-breaking curriculum addressing the identification treatment and assistance of human trafficking victims and created a one-of-a-kind health clinic for victims the Human Trafficking Medical Home.

Responsibilities

Job Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Manager of Education and the Director of Maternal Child Care Services, this position is responsible for providing lactation education, resources and support to patients and healthcare providers including nurses, physicians, educators and social service personnel ensuring services provided are consistent with organizational policies, applicable research and current standards. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays.

Job Duties:

  • Coordinate with the Director of Maternal Child Care Services and the Director of Quality/Risk/Case Management & Commonspirit Six Guiding Principles.

  • Identify patients physical, psychosocial, and cultural needs considering diagnosis, age, care setting, desire for care and response to care plan. Uses assessment and teaching methodologies, strategies and materials appropriately.

  • Develops clear, concise curricula, lesson plans and care plans .

  • Deliver competent care as required by patient, plan of care, and care setting.

  • Evaluate patients responses to care

  • Provide interactive patient and family education. Deals with a variety of clients effectively.

  • Communicates and collaborates effectively with all members of the healthcare team. Ensures that all new employees and contracted team members receive CSH Six Guiding Principles at hire and that Maternal Child staff complete the additional CSH Six Guiding Principles within the first six months of date of hire.

  • Document according to policy/procedure, standards, and guidelines.

  • Participate in improving organizational performance.

  • Communicates clearly (oral and written).

  • Networks with and among resources within and outside of the healthcare setting.

Qualifications

Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • Three years experience providing lactation education, resources and support to patients and healthcare providers.

  • Bachelor’s Degree - Bachelor's Degree in Health education or other related field.

Licensure:

  • International Board Certified Lactation Consultant

  • American Heart Association Basic LifeSupport (BLS)

Knowledge of:

  • Normal course of human lactation and its variations during the perinatal period.

  • Management of lactation for compromised mothers and infants

  • Physiological and psychological processes during the childbearing year.

  • Current standards of perinatal care Principles of adult education.

  • Infant and child development and care.

  • Healthcare and community resources.

Preferred:

  • Bilingual

Pay Range

$57.86 - $57.86 /hour
