Become a Data Analytics Senior Specialist at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you will be part of Edison Safety’s Insights & Analytics team, working to mitigate the risk of serious injuries and fatalities and reduce all injuries enterprise-wide. The team is responsible for all aspects of master data management, safety trending, reporting and visualizations.

The Data Analytics Senior Specialist is responsible for screening and categorizing (trend coding) employee safety-related submissions in the incident management system, performing quality assurance checks, analyzing the data for trends, creating visualizations, communicating conclusions, and making recommendations.

To meet objectives, this position regularly collaborates and interacts with management at all levels - field supervisors to executives – plus Edison Safety teammates, partner utilities, and clients across the company.

  • Lead the screening, categorizing, and severity classifications of employee incident submissions such that analysis, trending, and incident evaluations can be performed.

  • Interact with all levels of management to gather additional incident details, applying strong oral and written communication, and people skills.

  • Document and maintain internal categorization criteria, definitions, and processes, and ensure consistency with contractor incident screener.

  • Analyze and interpret quantitative and qualitative safety information to determine areas of improvement and communicate recommendations to safety program managers and senior management.

  • Communicate and present classification basis and analyses to management; articulate technical information to non-technical audiences.

  • Develop quality assurance processes and automation to build efficiencies.

  • Develop, manage, and contribute to Power BI dashboards and reports.

  • Establish relationships to successfully collaborate with teammates, other Edison Safety teams, and OU clients; consult with clients on ad hoc data requests and independently determine approach to solutions.

  • Develop and monitor performance metrics related to trends.

The essentials

  • 5 years of experience performing data analysis and compiling insights.

  • Experience with fact-finding and gathering pertinent information to make decisions.

  • Experience presenting technical information and impacts, results, and outcomes of analysis to non-technical audiences.

  • Advanced Excel knowledge including but not limited to, graphing, tables, calculations, and automation to process large quantities of data.

The preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, statistics, mathematics, economics, organizational behavior, health & safety, computer science or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • 2 years of utility or utility contractor experience with knowledge of electric system terminology and functions.

  • Experience developing analytical models and visualization with tools such as SAS, Python, R, Power BI, Tableau, etc.

  • Experience in data warehousing and extraction tools, technical data concepts, design, data engineering, and intermediate to sophisticated statistical techniques.

  • Training or experience with safety programs, OSHA standards, hazard mitigation, case management.

  • Experience handling sensitive and confidential data (e.g., within HIPAA requirements).

  • Ability to craft programmatic responses to identified adverse trends.

You should know

  • This position’s work mode is hybrid . The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.
