Description

Summary:

You would be a member of our Operations Team providing safety compliance knowledge and expertise to the organization. Collaborating with all leaders, including the Organization Effectiveness team to enhance the Company’s behavior-based safety approach and build a continuous improvement safety culture would also be part of your role.

Execute a variety of manual, technical and clerical work related to the operation of the wastewater treatment facilities, solid/chemical/hazardous waste disposal, air emissions, and chemical/petroleum bulk storage tank operations. Analyze environmental system performance and make recommendations for improvement. Monitor regulatory requirements, including reporting needs and ensure compliance. Participate in the capital planning process regarding environmental needs and responsibilities. Support Revere’s safety management system using a BMT (behavioral management techniques) approach. Serve as a resource to operations on all matters pertaining to safety. Review and monitor safety processes to assist operations in making progress on safety corrective actions. Perform safety related tasks as assigned. Create a presence on the shop floor representing safety leadership. Identify risks and hazards. Educate and support employees in improving safety in their work area.

Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Build upon Revere’s behavioral based safety approach.

  • Operate wastewater treatment system including sludge press and oil/water ultra-filtration system to meet facility needs and comply with regulatory requirements

  • Manage wastewater/ waste sampling and testing program including coordinating work performed by outside laboratory

  • Perform basic water quality analyses (pH, solids, copper, zinc, turbidity, etc.)

  • Monitor process instrumentation (pH, level, flow, etc.) including chart recorders, and pH probe maintenance (cleaning, calibration and replacement)

  • Researches and determines sources and methods of controlling pollutants in air, water, and soil, utilizing knowledge of agriculture, chemistry, meteorology, and engineering principles and applied technologies

  • Collect environmental data needed for regulatory compliance and reporting

  • Partner with engineering department to solve environmental problems.

  • Maintain reporting process and monitor regulatory requirements

  • Compile and compute environmental and engineering data as directed by supervision

  • Maintain environmental records in hardcopy and electronic format

  • Inspect/monitor petroleum and chemical bulk tanks, and containment systems

  • Inspect/monitor hazardous waste collection and storage area; manage inventory and maintain regulatory records

  • Inspect/monitor air treatment equipment and record daily readings

  • Help coordinate maintenance of environmental control equipment as necessary

  • Help coordinate work performed by Utility personnel in handling facility wastes

  • 24/7 Emergency On-Call for plant emergencies

  • Work 2 to 3 weekends per month (1 to 2 hours/day)

  • Communicate with facility personnel in execution of environmental work.

  • Assist with facility projects

  • Assist with Investigation of new technologies, upgrading old/obsolete equipment, finding alternative cost-effective waste treatment methods

  • This position may have access to or have to handle company funds

  • Actively review and communicate with supervisors regarding open safety issues and actions, and report out on status monthly

  • Support supervisors in the completion of injury analysis

  • Assist with new hire and new bidder training on specific safety responsibilities

  • Assist on training Revere’s Safety Policies

  • Review, discuss and edit assigned safety documents for approval

  • Assist leadership in all aspects of risk reduction associated with safety performance.

  • Report risks and hazards within the safety system

  • Maintain safety data as assigned

  • Maintain a working knowledge on safety best practices

  • Assist with annual safety compliance training

  • Maintain and perform “Train the Trainer” status

  • Maintain OSHA certifications

  • Perform other related duties as directed by supervision and detailed in standard work document and work instructions

  • Perform ergonomic assessment

  • Must be willing to travel at least 25%

Qualifications:

· Good problem-solving skills and ability to effectively deal with emergencies under supervision.

· Strong organization skills and managing of competing priorities

· Environmental experience in industrial or manufacturing setting

· Experience with laboratory/ field analytical test methods

· Experience with wastewater treatment systems and other environmental processes including a basic understanding of mechanical, electrical and instrument/control systems

· Proficient in MS word and excel (PowerPoint helpful)

· Successful completion of HAZWOPER and other environmental training to fulfill regulatory requirements.

· 3-5 years’ experience in a similar role or high-level consulting within the manufacturing sector.

· Minimum of 2 to 4 years of environmental experience

· Proficient level of safety compliance knowledge

· Strong working knowledge of behavior-based safety concepts and practices.

· Prior experience in a team based, highly collaborative role.

  • While performing the duties of this job, will be regularly exposed to work near

  • moving mechanical parts.

  • May be exposed to wet or humid conditions.

  • May be exposed to outdoor weather conditions.

  • May be regularly exposed to high noise environments.

  • May be exposed to extremely dusty environments.

  • May have to open and close valves, reach into containment areas and handle delicate samples.

  • Physical demands may include removing manhole covers, pushing and or pulling sludge carts, cleaning up spills, checking gauges and finding leaks.

  • May be exposed to outdoor weather conditions.

Education / Training:

Minimum:Associates Degree in an environmental or biological sciences, Occupational Health/ Safety, or related field.

Preferred: Bachelor Degree in related engineering or science discipline, Occupational Health/ Safety, or related field.

Safety certifications such as CSP, CHMM.

Salary Description

$60,000 - $75,000
