Actalent Sr. Principal Systems Engineer in Rockville, Maryland

Job Title: Sr. Principal Systems EngineerJob Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Sr. Principal Systems Engineer to support the U.S. Navy's Strategic Systems Program (SSP) Office and the Trident II D5 Strategic Weapon System (SWS) program. This role involves assisting with the Navy’s development of an updated version of the Trident Missile to support the Columbia submarine deployment. The ideal candidate will act as a technical lead for a team of roughly 40 personnel, learn quickly, train staff, sign off on technical changes, and communicate effectively during meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a technical team of approximately 40 personnel.

  • Learn technical content quickly and help technical leads approve changes.

  • Utilize CAMEO system modeler, SysML, and Windchill for routing changes.

  • Manage change evaluations, issue changes to impacted communities, adjudicate comments/changes, and work with the government for final sign-off.

  • Ensure all weapon system interface requirements are correctly defined and properly coordinated.

  • Perform technical change evaluations and develop in various tools, including CREO.

  • Interface with government and contractor activities to define Weapon System Coordinated Interfaces.

  • Exercise influence, mentor team members, and drive solutions to technical problems.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, or Systems Engineering or equivalent education and experience.

  • Understanding of Systems Engineering principles.

  • Experience with Interface Control/Design Drawings.

  • Requirements allocation and system architecture management experience.

  • Experience with DoD weapons systems.

  • Self-starter with excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with others.

  • Organizational, planning, and follow-up skills.

  • Experience preparing for and leading design reviews or customer meetings.

  • Proficiency with PC and MS Office Suite.

  • Experience with CREO, PTC Windchill, IBM DOORS, SysML, and other requirement management tools.

  • Experience with Model Based Engineering.

  • Ability to establish strong, positive customer relationships.

  • Ability to coach and mentor employees.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with Cable Running Sheets.

  • In-depth experience with modeling tools.

  • Experience within the U.S. Navy’s Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) and the TRIDENT II D5 Strategic Weapon System (SWS).

Work Environment

This position follows a hybrid model, typically working 3 days onsite, 2 days remote, and 1 day flexible. The work involves utilizing advanced engineering tools and requires effective collaboration with government and contractor activities.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $70.00 - $95.00/hr.
