Rochester Technology & Manufacturing Association (RTMA) Youth Navigator in Rochester, New York

POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for assisting with and expanding the RTMAs youth programs, including the Finger Lakes Youth Apprenticeship Program (FLYAP) and ROC With Your Hands (RWYH). The Youth Navigator (YN) will work with the Director of Workforce Development, Youth Apprenticeship Coordinator, advanced manufacturing businesses, K through 12 educational institutions (instructors, counselors, administrators, etc.), students/youth apprentices, and other partners as needed. Note: This position is part of a two-year pilot program through RochesterWorks. Long-term employment is the goal of this position at the completion of the pilot program.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Works under the supervision of RochesterWorks In-School Youth Coordinator and under the supervision of the RTMAs Director of Workforce Development. The Navigator will enhance access to and success in existing programs and services for in-school youth populations and establish relationships with students, teachers, counselors, and workforce development partners. Serve as an access point for students in need of guidance for a career in advanced manufacturing and/or other industries as appropriate. Work with in-school youth coordinator and cultivate relationships with school staff and administrators to ensure student and program success. Implement career readiness training for students to be done in and/or out of school. This depends on the flexibility of the school. Connect students to RTMA Youth Programs (i.e., Finger Lakes Youth Apprenticeship Program, ROC With Your Hands, Pre-Apprenticeship Programs, etc.); and where appropriate facilitate enrollment in Dual Enrollment coursework with Monroe Community College and/or other post-secondary providers. Facilitate career exploration opportunities through site visits, guest speakers, demonstrations, and/or job shadowing.

Collaborate with RochesterWorks and the City of Rochester in assisting students with enrollment into the Summer Youth Employment Program and/or Summer Of Opportunity Program. With primary work focused on advanced manufacturing, the Youth Navigator will work with manufacturing businesses and workforce partners to identify opportunities for paid co-ops (work experiences), tours, and/or training opportunities. There will be instances where students may need guidance in other industries such as IT, Healthcare, Skilled Trades, etc. Collaborating with other navigators and partners of the RTMA will provide you with the resources to offer guidance to those students. If applicable, facilitate enrollment in WIOA programming, administered by RochesterWorks. Build a bridge for students exiting the district to young adult workforce programming offered by RochesterWorks, the RTMA, and other partner agencies. Assist with media, social media, and website development as needed. Must have the ability to work with others and perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS: General knowledge of the advanced manufacturing industry, apprenticeship programs, and career exploration programs. Familiarity with working with school-aged children and being inside a school environment. Familiar with educational institutions in the greater Rochester and Finger Lakes Region. Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, Outlook, WordPress, and various social media. (NOTE: Comparable experience may be substituted for minimum qualifications.)

COMPENSATION: $40,000 to $50,000 per year based on experience. Healthcare, Simple IRA contribution, mileage, vacation, and holidays. The position may include a cell phone reimbursement.
