University of Rochester Project Assistant III in Rochester, New York

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Often in a short term (< 6 months) capacity, provide project support and guidance to cross-functional teams.

JOB DESCRIPTION COPY EDITOR:

This position primarily involves copy editing a book on grammar and writing. Formatting work will also be involved when the text is moved from google to Word. The position requires the student to work independently to review and make critical judgements about language use and to follow up with the supervisor, Deb Rossen-Knill (the author), to offer specific recommendations and, when asked for, explanations for those recommendations. The job requires independent planning because the copy editor will, while working independently, need to be able to estimate the amount of time the work will take and meet deadlines.

JOB REQUIREMENTS COPY EDITOR:

A strong background in writing and editing, sensitivity to sentence-level phenomena is a plus. A strong ability to make independent judgements about textual qualities, as well as an ability to articulate their reasons for their analysis. Strong ability to work collaboratively and consider other perspectives is also important. This position requires advanced experience in that applicants must have had either a course (i.e. 252 principles and practices of copyediting) or prior on-the-job-training in copy editing. This experience must be referenced in the resume and in the cover letter.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree required; Or equivalent combination of education and experience

Pay Range

Pay Range: $16.92 - $23.69 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
