Rochester Presbyterian Home Medication Technician - Assisted Living/Memory Care in Rochester, New York

The Rochester Presbyterian Home is seeking Medication Technicians for our Cottage Grove Assisted Living – Memory Care Community located in North Chili, New York.

The primary purpose of this position is to plan, implement and evaluate health and personal care services for elders in accordance with current federal, state and local standards and relations to ensure that the physical, emotional and social needs of the elders are met and maintained on an individual basis. The Medication Technician serves as a member of the interdisciplinary team and is specifically trained in the supportive care of persons with dementia, and other age-related diagnoses.

Job Description:

  • Directs/assists with safe, proper administration of medication to assigned residents.

  • Assists with medications and treatments to assigned residents as ordered by physician and utilizes the six rights as applicable.

  • Responsible for all aspects of the storage and distribution of controlled substance medications, ensures proper placement, labeling and use of medication stored by facility.

  • Responsible for responding immediately to residents’ requests.

  • Arranges transportation and schedules medical appointments for residents, as needed.

  • Performs timely and accurate documentation.

  • Makes daily rounds to assist the Eden Family with household roles.

  • Reports any unusual symptoms, changes of condition, daily needs, and progress of residents.

  • Ensures that residents’ rooms are clean, neat, and comply with regulatory standards.

  • Participates in change-of-shift report and is responsible for bringing family care staff of next shift up to date about the care and needs of residents.

  • Assists residents with Activities of Daily Living, according to their plan of care, individual needs, and care preferences.

  • Follows plans of care in providing daily living and personal care services for residents.

  • Participates in “community” activities as needed.

  • Maintains knowledge of residents’ rights and ensures their rights are protected.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by leadership.

    Medication Technician Educational Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Minimum 18 years of age.

  • Must take the RPH Medication Technician curriculum training and pass exam.

  • Certification by an approved basic training program in HHA services and possession of written evidence of certification is preferred.

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.

  • Long term care or Assisted Living/Memory Care experience is preferred.
