Job Description:

The Chief Systems Engineer lead technical concept and architectural design development activities for Tactical Communication (TCOM) products, informed by interaction with both internal and external customers. The candidate will be required to provide technical support to Business Development teams and Product Development teams.

The successful candidate will lead various Systems Engineering process and technology initiatives. The Chief Systems Engineer will work collaboratively across the CS TCOM Engineering organization to focus on the Requirements Management, Technical Baseline Creation, Review and Approval, Technical Roadmap Creation and System Engineering process compliance activities including, but not limited to, process artifact review and approval and Risk Management/Analysis. The Chief Systems Engineer will partner closely with both Engineering Project Managers and Subject Matter Experts across TCOM Engineering to lead various Systems Engineering process and technology initiatives through consistent strategy, direction, and alignment on continuous improvement initiatives.

Essential Functions:

  • Partner closely with Business Development teams, Engineering Project teams and Engineering Discipline Team leads to ensure consistent strategy, direction, and alignment with the Segment Strategic Growth Plan (SGP).

  • Lead technology initiatives beyond their own core technical specialty, relying on team members from other specific disciplines as required.

  • Elicit and prepare systems requirements, design reviews and documentation per standard development processes. Preparing for and participate in technical baseline reviews.

  • Conduct system requirements reviews and create and/or update requirement specifications and technical documentation. Review system engineering documentation to ensure specifications meet system needs and are accurate, comprehensive, and complete.

  • Perform system modeling using tools and techniques to define system interfaces, requirements and behaviors and provide support to system design.

  • Lead functional analysis, detailed trade studies and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

  • Provide cross-functional technical and process leadership in the execution of multiple IRAD and Program funded projects.

  • 10% travel domestically for customer pruposes.

  • Hybrid Work Location: You will need to live within commuting distance to our Rochester, NY location. Work from home schedule will be dictated by the manager and business needs.

    Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with a minimum of 9 years of prior related experience. Graduate Degree with a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.

    Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Active Secret clearance.

  • Experience working within a large multidisciplinary engineering team.

  • Experience assessing and reporting technical project status, risks and issues.

  • Experience generating accurate estimates for System NRE and recurring costs.

  • Experience providing technical support to internal and external customers.

  • Experience describing complex system solutions to audiences of varying technical backgrounds and establish support/enthusiasm for a proposed solution.

  • Experience with DOORS requirements management software.

  • Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).

  • Experience writing specifications, design, ConOps, and Interface Control Documents.

  • Ability to write subsystem specification and requirements.

  • Experience working directly with customers onsite at their facility.

  • Proven team leadership skills, providing the technical voice for a project, program, or pursuit.

    In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Washington State and New York State is $106,500 - $197,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
