The base salary range for this position is dependent upon experience, ranging from $111,544-$139,431

Job Summary

Provide supervision to employees who may be supporting Research and Development (R&D) Program projects involving the gas transmission and delivery (T&D) systems. Supervise and manage engineering staff responsible for maintaining engineering documentation and performance reporting pertaining to the gas T&D systems. Support emergent priorities and responsibilities within Gas Engineering and Technical Services on an as-needed basis.

Understand and apply engineering principles, industry knowledge, best practices and regulatory requirements to support the various other areas of responsibility within Gas Engineering Technical Services to enhance the safety and reliability of the natural gas network.

Responsibilities

Provide supervision of employees who may be involved with the NYSEG and RG&E Gas R&D program, various specific R&D projects and supporting internal/external resources. Recommend and establish program priorities and direction in support of Avangrid and Operations/Engineering goals. Plan and manage the O&M budget among the various program areas and leads budget control and tracking actions. Prepare and provides technical reports to management on an as-needed basis.

Provide supervision to the internal processes and employees responsible for various gas Engineering controlled documentation including O&M Procedures, Construction Standards, Emergency Plans, various other documentation and periodic reporting as required by Federal/State regulation and Avangrid established requirements.

Support and/or supervise employees in emergent or unplanned priorities such as but not limited to Rate Case development, PSC data requests, incident reporting, business integration and the Integrity Management Program.

Support response to and recommended solution for emergent requests from Gas Field Operations and other departments as required. Provide guidance and mentoring of Engineers, Analysts and other identified individuals in a matrix organization. Identify and recommend employee development and training opportunities within the group. Review and prepare various engineering reports, presentations, and documentation. Responsible to ensure employees work safely and in accordance with established Avangrid requirements. May represent the company on various teams or committees and/or act as liaison for the Company with customers and with state and municipal agencies to coordinate efforts.

Skills and Requirements

Technical Skills/Competencies

  • General Engineering knowledge - Planning, Operations and Engineering Design, Analytic, modeling & Calculation, understanding the business model; Global View of the Business (Values cross-functional collaboration, understands importance of growing knowledge and developing relationships and links across the organization)
  • Computer skills - Ability to learn and utilize new engineering specific software. Strong understanding of database programs (Access, Oracle, etc.).
  • Engineering documentation - Ability to adequately document and interpret engineering documentation
  • Knowledge of Regulatory and Compliance Environment - Local, State and Federal Regulatory Standards and requirements

Education & Experience Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field required, bachelor's degree in engineering (Civil or Mechanical) preferred.
  • Minimum of 6-8 years technical experience in gas
  • Knowledge of Company policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of gas system construction and maintenance practices.
  • Knowledge of state and federal pipeline safety regulations.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with budget forecasting and management
  • Awareness of project management principles and techniques
  • Experience in gas materials and standards and/or procedures
  • Prior supervisory experience
