Summary
Perform tests on construction materials such as soil and concrete for quality control / quality assurance in a laboratory setting.
Responsibilities and Duties
Testing of samples in accordance with appropriate test standards, and documentation of results
Ensure that tests are performed properly and in accordance with the Test Standards; perform the necessary retests if an error is discovered in the initial testing procedure and note test result deviation to the Standard for accurate reporting of the test
Logging in of samples to specific test specimen identification book
Audit and train Field Staff on Soil Classification, sample collection procedures, test specimen fabrication, test specimen labeling and field equipment care
Assist Supervising Laboratory Technician to ensure that lab and field equipment receive periodic, routine calibration, is maintained properly and is always in good working condition
Read project plans, interpret project specifications, interpret Statement of Special Inspections and apply those interpretations to the laboratory work frequency and other minimum frequencies is required
Assist Supervising Laboratory Technician with inspections of laboratory with accrediting body
Qualifications and Skills
High School Diploma is required; Associates degree in Civil Engineering Technology or related is ideal, although not necessary
Experience with laboratory testing of construction materials is desirable
Must have the ability to comprehend test standards, practices and specifications, and use spreadsheet software to analyze data
Must have the ability to obtain industry certifications with full support from CME
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
Compensation: $20 - 22/hour
