CME Associates, Inc. Laboratory Technician in Rochester, New York

Summary

Perform tests on construction materials such as soil and concrete for quality control / quality assurance in a laboratory setting. 

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Testing of samples in accordance with appropriate test standards, and documentation of results

  • Ensure that tests are performed properly and in accordance with the Test Standards; perform the necessary retests if an error is discovered in the initial testing procedure and note test result deviation to the Standard for accurate reporting of the test

  • Logging in of samples to specific test specimen identification book

  • Audit and train Field Staff on Soil Classification, sample collection procedures, test specimen fabrication, test specimen labeling and field equipment care

  • Assist Supervising Laboratory Technician to ensure that lab and field equipment receive periodic, routine calibration, is maintained properly and is always in good working condition

  • Read project plans, interpret project specifications, interpret Statement of Special Inspections and apply those interpretations to the laboratory work frequency and other minimum frequencies is required

  • Assist Supervising Laboratory Technician with inspections of laboratory with accrediting body

Qualifications and Skills

  • High School Diploma is required; Associates degree in Civil Engineering Technology or related is ideal, although not necessary

  • Experience with laboratory testing of construction materials is desirable

  • Must have the ability to comprehend test standards, practices and specifications, and use spreadsheet software to analyze data

  • Must have the ability to obtain industry certifications with full support from CME

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license

Compensation: $20 - 22/hour
