Actalent HVAC Engineer in Rochester, New York

We are seeking a mid-level Mechanical HVAC Engineer to support a variety of K-12, healthcare, and higher education projects, including renovations at prominent universities.
This role requires a strong understanding of building codes and the ability to lead projects effectively.
Responsibilities
Research code issues and collaborate with City, State, and County officials.
Research design options and document findings.
Review drawings supplied by vendors, clients, engineers, and architects, recommending necessary changes.
Develop plans, specifications, and inspection reports to ensure accuracy and adherence to good engineering practices.
Resolve design problems through field investigations, inspections, detailed design work, and coordination of design aspects.
Design components or systems related to HVAC, piping, and plumbing.
Work closely with other disciplines, particularly the electrical team, on multi-discipline projects.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
Minimum of 4 years of experience in HVAC systems in buildings, particularly commercial settings.
Knowledge of U.S. building codes.
Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
Valid New York State Driver’s License for occasional site visits (80/20).
Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, load calculations, and mechanical design.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in plumbing design, construction documentation, healthcare design, and renovation projects.
EIT or PE certification is preferred.
Ability to independently evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques.
Experience in planning, scheduling, and coordinating project work phases.
Proficiency in making design recommendations, adaptations, and modifications.
Ability to perform engineering calculations and complete design work using computer-aided or manual drafting techniques.
Experience in preparing reports and correspondence regarding project direction.
Ability to serve as a technical advisor to junior team members and devise new problem-solving approaches.
Experience in performing quality control checks and assisting on job sites as needed.
Work Environment
This role offers a hybrid work environment based in Rochester or Buffalo, working in teams of 2-4 engineers depending on the discipline.
The team reports to the Head of Mechanical in the Rochester office.
Every Monday, there is a 7:30 AM meeting to assess project statuses and deliverables.
Separate department meetings are held to allocate resources and ensure employees are not overworked.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.86 - $45.00/hr.
