University of Rochester Grant Sourcing Specialist II in Rochester, New York

GENERAL PURPOSE:

The Grant Writer for Diversity Initiatives holds a key position in advancing inclusive excellence within Arts, Sciences & Engineering (AS&E) by identifying and securing funding opportunities aligned with diversity goals. Responsible for crafting compelling grant proposals and managing the submission process, this role collaborates with stakeholders to develop strategic plans for large-scale diversity initiatives. By amplifying grant funding efforts, this position contributes significantly to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion across AS&E, ensuring the realization of strategic priorities and impactful projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Grant Research and Writing:

  • In collaboration with existing internal resources, identify potential funding opportunities aligned with School of Arts and Sciences, Hajim School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and Warner diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) goals.

  • Explore potential opportunities by using internal resources as appropriate- i.e. engaging with funding sources and through information sessions such as RFP webinars, professional conferences, etc.

  • Serve as main or secondary writer of high-quality grant proposal narratives, applications, budgets and supporting documents; these will include federal funders such as NSF, NIH DoE, and others, as well as individual, foundation, and corporate sources.

  • Work with relevant internal teams to develop content, data and analyses for each submission.

  • Coordinate with central business units to ensure realistic proposal outcomes and benchmarks.

  • Connect with internal and external resources to obtain relevant letters of support.

  • Provide the AVPOAE and other leaders with relevant research and supporting data for various activities, current and proposed.

Grant Submission:

  • Manage the proposal submission process to ensure timely submission of all required materials.

  • With internal resources, coordinate any needed follow-up on submitted proposals.

  • Repurpose rejected submissions as appropriate.

  • Participate in UR internal CLASP certification process

  • Maintain all relevant internal certifications

Faculty Support:

  • Work with team members in OAE to provide training support for faculty in the DEI space, including: inclusive workspace, safe environments, mentoring, and other topics relevant to successful submission and stewardship of grant funds.

  • Stay up-to-date on current law, research and practice, and serve as a resource for faculty with respect to relevant civil rights, Title IX, disability and other laws with respect to the rights of protected individuals.

  • Stay up-to-date on current law, research and practice, and serve as a resource for faculty and staff with respect to university policies, procedures and processes with respect to harassment and discrimination.

  • Serve as a DEI resource for members of the AS&E Research team.

  • Serve as OAE representative with DEI committees in academic departments, and in other appropriate venues.

Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree and 2 years relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

  • Master's degree, equivalent course work, or specialized experience in an appropriate field related to the assignment is desirable. Experience in academia is highly desirable.

  • Demonstrated ability to write successful grant proposals.

  • A deep understanding of diversity priorities within the academic context, coupled with a commitment to advancing inclusive excellence through grant funding efforts and strategic collaboration.

  • Proficiency in identifying funding opportunities aligned with diversity goals, utilizing internal and external resources for comprehensive research, and analyzing data to support proposal development.

  • Able to effectively communicate with multiple stakeholders.

  • Proven ability to complete projects according to outlined scope, budget, and timeline.

  • Detail-oriented, organized, and deadline-driven.

  • Clear, precise, and compelling writing skills

  • Ability to work and communicate effectively in a large matrix organization.

  • Strong familiarity with planning and project management software tools, methodologies, and best practices

  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel and PowerPoint.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $59,197 - $82,888 Annually

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
