Compensation Range:

$26.90 - $37.66

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Maintains responsibility for biomedical engineering design in support of projects. Provides full range of professional biomedical engineering services in all phases of research, design and construction.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Manages and coordinates in-house biomedical design projects, including responsibility for engineering and constructing simulation models using 3-D printing and polymer molding techniques.

  • Establishes protocol for all laboratory work and may assign and supervise selected tasks to subordinate staff.

  • Develops and designs physical simulation models using 3-D computer aided design (CAD) software. This includes creation of anatomical models (kidney, liver, brain, etc.) and/or other surgical skills simulators.

  • Prototypes new models, including review of literature for advances in biomedical field and conducting focus groups with clients.

  • Designs and implements research protocols. Adjusts current protocols as needed. Ensures the integrity and security of all study data at all time. Follows laboratory regulations and ensures compliance with institution requirements.

  • Drafts research papers and grant proposals, including analysis of data.

  • Provides professional advice and judgement in testing of PVA formulations and additives to meet client needs.

  • Troubleshoots and maintains 3-D printers in cases of simple malfunctions.

  • Develops high-level designs for new projects and interfaces with client to determine needs and design specifications.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree and 2 years of relevant experience required

  • Master's degree preferred

  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong knowledge of CAD software (Solid Works, Autodesk, Mesh Mixer, etc.) preferred

  • Knowledge of Mechanical Testing Systems (MTS) preferred
