Position description

The PM&R technician is responsible to and receives direction from the physician, coordinator, supervisor, physical and occupational therapists, physical therapist assistants and certified occupational therapy assistants. They assist other personnel as requested.

The Physical Medicine Technician in the acute and the sub-acute care therapy practices assists both physical and occupational therapy staff to work with patients throughout the hospital. At the direction of a physician or therapist, the therapy tech assists with patient care during therapy interventions, monitors patients during interventions and communicates change/concerns with team members; demonstrates understanding of PM&R procedures and medical terminology related to duties; demonstrates a basic knowledge of sterile procedures and proper body mechanics related to patient care; maintains a clean and safe work environment including ordering/maintenance of equipment and supplies; demonstrates knowledge of basic computer programs including the electronic medical record; assists with clerical and administrative tasks as assigned and is responsible for ordering needed supplies for the work unit. The therapy tech provides support for multiple practices including Dysphagia, Lymphedema, Mental Health, Hand Therapy, Wound Care, Intensive Care Unit, Subacute and Acute Care Physical and Occupational therapy. Position requires the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and the ability to work with a diverse patient population, e.g. ethnic diversity, patients with physical and psychosocial impairments, etc. Job requirements include the ability to frequently bend or stoop, carry, push and pull objects weighing more than 25lbs and walk during their shift. Occasional requirements include grasping and pinching, keyboarding, kneeling, or squatting, carrying, pushing and pulling objects more than 50lbs, working with arms above shoulder height, sitting and standing during the work shift.

Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent required.

Additional qualifications

Additional education, experience and skill in the field of human services preferred. Ability to use electronic equipment which may include computers, telephones, and video cameras is required. Interpersonal skills are required for effective communication.

Acute care hospital day time shifts available Monday - Friday (generally between 7:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.). Orientation to both Mayo Clinic Hospital - Rochester, Saint Marys Campus Gen 5 acute care and Mayo Clinic Hospital - Rochester, Methodist Campus acute care and outpatient lymphedema clinic.

Weekend schedule

Weekend shifts available at Mayo Clinic Hospital - Rochester, Saint Marys Campus Gen 5 wound care (7:00 - 11:00 Saturday and Sunday) or occasional shifts at Mayo Clinic Hospital - Rochester, Methodist Campus wound care 7:00 - 11:00 Saturday only.
